Just wondering general opinions on this name!

Due with a boy very soon and still no name for him :(

I come across this and love it and love the nickname Cass, however worried is it too 'out there'?

On my short list are quite popular boys names - Harry, George, Teddy and Freddie.

But I do like this unique name..

It's unusual but not out there I don't think. I think Cass is a good nickname for a child/teen as well. I would go for it.

I like it! It’s a big name but so are many others which are popular at the moment, such as Theodore. Has a similar classic feel to the Oscar’s and Theodore’s but not so ubiquitous. Nice.

Reminds me of Cassius Clay. Would it be shortened to the feminine Cassie though?

I’ve seen a few threads on Cassius over the last month.

To me it just makes me think of Muhammad Ali and the fact he called Cassius clay his slave name

Castial

I like Cassius, but only the Cass-ee-us pronunciation, rather than Cash-us. And I prefer Cassian to Cassius. I think Cassius is far better than the other names on your list and I don't think it's too out there. Caspar is rising in popularity across several spellings so the Cass sound is quite familiar, and Cassius itself is in moderate use.

I like it, distinctly masculine but with a softness to it. Also it's fairly uncommon, but feels familiar, easy to say and spell. I guess to some people it could come off slightly pretentious, but not the the extent it would put me off. According to name data it has been rising since the 90's to around 150 babies per year.

Cassius is a lovely classical name. While it's not especially commonplace yet, I don't think it's too "out there" anymore as all the "Cas/Cass" names (Cassius, Casper, Cassian, Caspian) have been steadily increasing for boys in the last 15 years or so (I wonder if it's because there was a prominent "Cass" on TV during that time - Castiel on Supernatural).

It's unusual but familiar because of Cassius Clay, so it's usable.

I prefer Cassian myself.

There’s one in DS’s class (nursery). Personally I find it a bit of a mouthful and it always makes me think if Cassius Clay. But it only really matters if you like it.

Fear him not Caesar, he’s a noble and well given.

I like it. I think prefer Caspar as, being shorter you can use the whole name. Cassius would just be Cas which is less nice.

Not sure where you are but it's definitely not unusual where we are. I know 3 little ones though my children.

I love it but may be biased as I have my own Cassius.
He's 7 and I did have a wobble for about 2 months after he was born, I regretted calling him it and cringed when I had to tell people his name 😬 I felt it was too out there.

I got over that though and now I'm so glad I named him it as it really suits him.

I was determined not to call him "Cass" but his friends started it at nursery and now he does get called Cass quite a lot but I think that suits him too.

Also, it is unusual where we are as I've never come across another Cassius in real life.

I like it, but there's one in my son's room at nursery too so not that uncommon.

just be aware that a name with 3 of the same letter is a pita as many sticker sets only have 2 each... at least an 's' can be substituted with a '5' Grin

Latest work project is named Cassius, so I hear it dozens of times a day, and still love it for a boys name! Go for it and good luck with the birth x
