Codie for a girl?

I’ve been thinking of girl names and I’ve fallen in love with Codie. My close friend however said it was mainly for boys. Opinions?

Hell no for either.

In fact we had a mother on here who’s DD had instead on changing her name from Cody to Rose.

I’m a teacher and I’ve taught a few girls called Codie, but never a boy (actually two of the girls I taught were Codie-Leigh!)

I’d say “Cody” is a boy, but the “Codie” is a girl.

Good luck and congratulations!

Makes me think of Neighbours is the early 90s, Cody was one of the main characters wasn’t she? I like it.

Cody is mainly used for boys, but in the early 2000s, the Codie spelling was used for more girls than boys, though that's now changed as the name has decreased in popularity. There were still significantly more male Cody/Codies than females to the extent that I think most people would see it as a boys name rather than unisex.

There was an Am I Being Unreasonable a few months ago where the OP's daughter hated the name Kody as she felt it was too masculine and wanted to change it to Rose.

The only one I know is a boy and he is Kody.

Cody for a boy is just about passable.

Codie for a girl is really bad. It looks like Code, only misspelt

It sounds like an adjective for a computer programmer. They're very code-y.

I've known a fair few boys called Cody (and variants), but no girls. If I heard the name Codie I would definitely assume he was a boy.

It's not horrible, but it's not my taste personally. Also bear in mind Cody for boys is pretty popular now (ranked no 129 and rising) where as Codie for girls is quite rare in comparison as pp noted, so I'd consider the potential confusion there too (if someone just heard the name, rather than seeing it written down).

I've heard Kadie for a girl.

Wasn't there an AIBU thread over the summer started by a mother hugely offended that her teenage daughter had shunned her given name and was demanding to be called Rose?

Turns out she'd saddled the poor girl with the name Kody and everyone agreed that she was absolutely right to start calling herself Rose.
