Daniella?

My husband's current crush and I love the sound of it but to me it's very 80s, frilly and makes me think of Daniella Westbrook.
Can an English/Welsh couple get away with Danica and is it better?

I prefer Danielle to both Daniella and Danica.

Honestly? No. And it's not because I don't like it
But people can't spell it and you get Daniel instead personal experience here
I mean it's hardly a tricky name but.. I would say it gets changed to Daniel at least once a week Sad

Daniella is a lovely name

I'm not keen and would prefer Danica I think.
It also reminds me of Daniella Westbrook but nobody in her peer group will know who that is.
It's not a horrible sounding name, it's just my associations with it.

I can’t get past the Daniellas I knew in the eighties, who were all spoilt frilly princesses. My niece is a Danica and I think that’s fine. No reason it can’t be used for an English/Welsh child.

There’s also Danae, which is pretty and strong

I like Daniella and love Danica although don’t know one of English heritage

I hate Daniella, probably because I met Daniella Westbrook and she was so up herself it put me right off. I do like Danica a lot.

Danica is much better and less dated sounding.

Daniella is very dated, not keen at all.
Danica I’ve never heard but it sounds quite cool to me, also like Danae as I follow a lovely Danae on Instagram but I’m not sure how it’s actually pronounced.

Wow really dislike Danica! So harsh and just sounds odd

Hmmm a mixed bag. I'm trying to talk myself into it before our chat tomorrow night when we hope to decide. Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it!

I don't like the double L.

Daniela is nicer imo.

I agree with pp. Daniela.
Then I thought Danielica. I have no idea if I just made this up though!

I don’t like Danica at all, I really like Daniella but agree it is better with one L so Daniela.

I think it’s a pretty name but a bit 80’s. How about Saskia? I love that name, super cool, and it’s a similar sound to Danica.

@TenThousandSpoons. The Danae I know pronounces it Dan—ay
The original Danae was from Greek Mythology and she was the mother of Perseus.
Danae is also the name of an asteroid

Danica sounds like an 80s scifi character. Daniella is lovely!

Danniella Westbrook. As PP pointed out, the spelling will catch people out.

Danica is nice, but what about Diana or Diane?

Report
BlueFlavour · 26/11/2021 21:38

Love Danae.
Daniela is the Italian and nicer spelling imho.

Teenage me used to love Danica, not sure I love it now but it's still a nice name. I think Dani is cute on a girl for a NN

I like Daniella too just not Danielle (seems more dated)

I prefer Danielle over Daniella, because of the choice of spelling Daniela or Daniella. I like Danica too.

Yes they're 80s names but I like being a bit different but not too much. My daughter age 8 has an 80s name.....my boys do too TBF. Not "classic" names just plain 80s names like Danielle.
