Julia. Every child or adult I've ever met called Joy had been anything but Joyful, it's a big name to live up to.

I love the name Joy. It’s just a difficult name to live up to

Julia is safer. If you get a shy and introverted or melancholy Joy, the amount of people who will take the piss out of her name - my godmother is Joy and has had to develop a thick skin because of it.

Or Joyce?

Julia definitely

Julia. I'm a Julia and really like it - feels quite classic without being super popular (I've only met a couple of others but they've been different ages to me). I wouldn't want to be a Joy - less keen on the sound and it feels like something I'd have to live up to.

My step mum is Joy and just no. Joy for a middle name would be fine. Although maybe not Julia Joy

Julia, option to be Jules when older.
I also have only known one Joy who was anything but a Joy!
