Ellis is one of my very favourite names. Great choice

No Ellis and Alex don't sound remotely similar to me. Is it because they both have two syllables? I'm not seeing a similarity?

Ellis is on our shortlist, find out the sex tomorrow!

In some ways it does, and also doesn’t. Think maybe the only issue would be shouting one of them and it not being clear which you are shouting when voices get muffled between walls etc x

Nah not too close. It's a really nice name.

Think it could only be a problem if they were siblings. Fine for anything else. Lovely name!

I think it’s usable, but yes might get slightly annoying when you are yelling up the stairs Grin

I don't think Alex and Ellis sound too alike - not for father and son anyway.

It sounds really similar in my accent! If it's for a girl I suppose you could shorten to Elli if it caused issues, if it is for a boy El maybe?! I know boys and girls with the name but actually haven't heard any shorten it yet!

@Ijustlikedthename wonder if you live near me. It's for a boy but I dislike shortening names. My oh does go by al a lot so I could avoid it, it's just I so call him Alex (because I dislike shortening names lol) I might just have to go with it and call him al more lol

I like it and in my accent Ellis and Alex don't sound alike.

I know 2 children named Ellis. One boy and one girl although I do think of it as more of a boys name. I also like Elliot.

Ellis is lovely, and doesn't sound akin to Alex to my ears.
I've not encountered a female Ellis so know it only as a male name.

I don’t think they sound too similar. I’m also biased as my DS name is Ellis Smile

I think it's fine! I probably wouldn't call siblings Ellis and Alex, but think it's fine for father and son.

Sounds like a plan to shorten your husband's name then! Grin

I love Ellis, definitely my top boys name! I have a hunch we’re having a girl though 😂

Going against the grain, I think they are too similar. Yelled across the garden or up the stairs as a pp said, there’s a good chance you’d get both answering.

It’s also a bit of a tongue twister - instead of saying “Alex and Ellis have gone to watch the tennis” I’d end up coming out with “Aless and Ellix...”

I know twins called Ellis and Lennox and I always garble them like this when I speak about them, and their names aren’t even as close in sound.

Ellis is a lovely name and doesn't sound too like Alex at all to me.

I'm playing around with accents in my head and could potentially understand them sounding similar if you're Glaswegian : )
