Interested to hear what people think of the name Octavia for a girl please?
Baby is due in August and we also got married in August so the eighth has significance for us, I'm really warming towards it.
I know it is a Skoda 😂 but that doesn't bother me too much!

it iks also the name of renowned social reformer

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octavia_Hill

it's ok- would you shorten it at all? what to?

TwirpingBird Wed 17-Feb-21 14:50:27

It makes me think if a marvel character ..... I think it's a bit much. Maybe just not my taste though.

luluorange Wed 17-Feb-21 14:51:05

Ooh thank you @JackieweaverhasALLtheauthority
Love the username!
Thinking Tava or Taya but I guess a nn might just come naturally

I like it - it’s on my list too!

Bettyboop3 Wed 17-Feb-21 15:00:27

I have always loved the name, i believe it was the name of a book i read when i was much younger. However my dd is glad my dh wouldn't hear of her being named it 🥴

Quercus3 Wed 17-Feb-21 15:01:19

I love it!

DreamingInColours Wed 17-Feb-21 15:04:36

Does the number 8 hold any significance for you ?
Personally I find the name too fussy but can see the appeal.

CattyCactus Wed 17-Feb-21 15:04:59

I think it’s fabulous.
Nn could be Tavi or Tavia.
But as you said, something else might organically develop, or nothing. As Octavia is such a lovely name by itself.

luluorange Wed 17-Feb-21 15:07:56

@DreamingInColours yes baby is due in August and we married in August 😊 I believe 8 is very lucky in Chinese cultures aswell

I've got an Octavia! Born 8/8/8. We would have called her Octavia anyway though regardless of birthday.

luluorange Wed 17-Feb-21 15:16:55

@Kendodd how lovely! 💕 that's our wedding anniversary but different year.

Does her name get shortened at all?
I've never heard of anyone with the name except Octavia Spencer

Tavy by some of her friends, but mostly Octavia by us.
It was the day the Beijing Olympics started.

luluorange Wed 17-Feb-21 15:22:51

@Kendodd that's really cool! Thank you for sharing 😊

Kendodd Wed 17-Feb-21 15:50:56

It is rather outing though isn't it. Hopefully the thread won't be too busy smile

AudacityOfHope Wed 17-Feb-21 16:02:12

Lovely smile

bootlebum Wed 17-Feb-21 16:07:24

I really, really love it

luluorange Wed 17-Feb-21 16:08:14

@Kendodd yes potentially, we may need a name change after this or could ask MN to remove if concerned

Not a fan at all .. it’s just too much

Timpeall Wed 17-Feb-21 17:41:28

Reminds me of Octavia Butler and Octavia Spencer.

It's quite a big name. Not sure I love it. But I don't hate it. I do really like Tavi for short.

Timpeall Wed 17-Feb-21 17:43:51

Octavia being born on 8/8/8 is pretty cool though.

KellyMarieTunstall2 Wed 17-Feb-21 17:46:33

It's gorgeous! Love it.

Ulelia Wed 17-Feb-21 17:49:16

Quite common where I live (Latin-language speaking). Girls tend to shorten it to Tavie (Tay-vi) or Tavia.
