Using a friend of a friends baby name.

Okay so, my best friend who I’ve known since childhood used to work with someone who named their baby the same name as I want to name mine. I don’t know her personally, and have never met her my friend doesn’t see her very often and they live a long way away. They do catch up on the odd occasion there’s a group of them. In other words shes definitely closer to me than to them, and she literally never sees this child. Do you think this is an issue or no?

Absolutely not.

abbie777 Sat 21-Nov-20 06:48:16

So should I just use the name anyway and not care?

The baby was born a few years ago and is now 2 years old so it’s not like they were born at the same time?

Why would there be a issue?

abbie777 Sat 21-Nov-20 06:49:21

Just if my friend decides to post things on social media or something will this friend think it’s weird?

I would imagine that most people have a friend of a friend with a child with the same name, unless it's a very unusual name.

milienhaus Sat 21-Nov-20 06:50:50

Yes use the name. Whether or not this random person you’ve never met thinks it’s weird is completely unimportant. Are you feeling anxious in general?

abbie777 Sat 21-Nov-20 06:52:23

I’m pretty sure it’s no big deal, I’m just a people pleaser and don’t want to upset anyone😂 I’m sure I’m just over thinking it.

It’s not a big deal.
Use the name.

Littlepond Sat 21-Nov-20 07:22:47

I suppose it might be a bit weird for the friend of a friend if the name is really really unusual but that isn’t really your problem! You aren’t friends with her and you don’t mix in the same circles so it is literally a non problem.
What’s the name? smile

abbie777 Sat 21-Nov-20 07:32:26

It’s Aurora☺️

Aurora is lovely. It's reasonably unusual but not so out there that if I knew one and a friend also named their baby Aurora I'd be hmm or anything.

Totally fine. Go for it. If your friend comments in an unpleasant way, she is being a dick tbh.

Oreservoir Sat 21-Nov-20 08:22:05

Imo it wouldn't be an issue if it was your friends child.
Aurora is a beautiful name, also the French version Aurore which goes better with some surnames.

Standrewsschool Sat 21-Nov-20 08:25:51

I used the same name as my then boss, who’s son was born a few months before mine. I never even gave it a second thought. This was over twenty years ago. The two boys have never met.

starfishmummy Sat 21-Nov-20 08:28:53

This is a non- problem. I think your pregnancy hormones are playing up!

Mashingthecompost Sat 21-Nov-20 08:31:30

Aurora is a name that people use, so itnot like you're pinching a family name or something. Use it. smile

MercyBodle Sat 21-Nov-20 11:44:16

No issue. Use it.

FluffyEggsontoast Sat 21-Nov-20 11:57:04

Just wanted to say Aurora is a beautiful name
It's very sweet you're concerned you're obviously a very caring person but this is a non issue

It's a beautiful name and you should use it without thinking of any issues, as there aren't any!

For what it's worth, my DH has a group of friends who all see each fairly regularly, as a result so do the wives and children. Within the space of about a year, 3 of his friends named their child the same name. So we now have 3 little Sarah's (name changed) running round who will all likely end up in the same year at the same school - no one even bats an eyelid.

This is a total non-issue! It’s a moderately popular name and you’ve never even met the woman.

ScotchBunnet Sat 21-Nov-20 15:50:22

How could it possibly be an issue that someone you don’t know had a baby a few years ago with the same very popular name you’re thinking of giving yours? Of course it’s fine!!!

Queenoftheashes Sat 21-Nov-20 15:53:18

Aurora is the third most popular uk girl’s name so far this year so it’s not like you’re nicking something unique. And even if you were you have never met this person so who cares.

It isn’t. There’s no live record of that data. We’ll get the 2020 stats in Aug/Sep 2021. It was #70 in 2019, so moderately popular.

abbie777 Sat 21-Nov-20 17:10:56

I was concerned at first about the popularity, but there were something like 777 girls called Aurora in 2019, which I thought wasn’t that many, it’s less that 1000 isn’t it?
