Thoughts on the name on its own? Or better shortened from Christopher / Christian?

Not really keen on Christopher as know quite a few people named Chris

Makes me think of Knightrider

I quite like it. Also not keen on Christopher. Perhaps you could use a longer / more traditional middle name, for a bit of balance?

I know a Kit. Really lovely lad and so the name has good connotations for me.

Thanks all. It's one of the first boys names we've actually both liked so must mean something!

I know a couple. It is lovely and was on my shortlist as Christopher shortened to Kit. I like the long Sunday name, short nickname thing tho.

Love it! Do it! I only know 1, it seems way too underused for how great a name it is!

I love the name Kit. Could be short for Christian too.

I like it. Not so keen on Christopher or Chris. Christian is better.

I know a Kit! I used to think of knightrider, but now the name is all his :) he totally owns it! And he’s a great little boy.

It’s cute. He needs an evil twin called Karr though.

Always loved Kit. It's a really cool nn, but I'm not sure it works as a standalone name as it's doesn't feel established enough for me (unlike say Jack or Harry which are so popular people wouldn't assume they are really John or Henry for example).

Either Christopher or Christian would work, but Christopher might be easier since people might make assumptions about your religion for Christian. I don't think people would automatically call him Chris, that's more commonly a 35-50 year old mans name - most under 30's would either use their full name or Kit.

it's the name of a young cat. not for me. not as a given name.

I totally love this name!

I love the name. It was one I wanted to shortlist but my husband didn't. As long as where you are people don't mostly use the glottal stop - that was my husbands gripe about it.

I know a Kitt.

I'm another one who doesn't like diminutives used as registered names. Register him with the proper name (Christopher), use Kit from the outset, and leave him with the option to choose other variations on his name when he's older. But then I'm a massive snob Grin

Be careful about having a full name but a 'known as' diminutive. One of my stepsons has had no end of trouble with things like passport applications due to this.

I love it! My son is Kitson and he goes by Kit.

I love Kit, but not at all keen on Christopher or Christian.
Just use Kit if you like it. It doesn't have to be one of the other two and then shortened.
And, you can't really shorten Kit, unless some numptie used K.

Wow thanks all!

Anyone have any suggestions for any other names it could be shortened from other than Christian or Christopher?

I don’t know what it could be a diminutive of other than Christopher or Christian but have jumped on to say I love Kit! It’s a brilliant name Smile
