Does it always get shortened? What to- Robbie or Rob? Or something else?

Love Robin and would want people to use the full name but I know that doesn't always happen, and not sure I like those nicknames!

My Robin is 5 and so far has only ever been called Robin

A close family member is called Robin, I doubt most people even know that’s his name as he always uses Rob. Only my Mum calls him Robin

Have you thought about Rowan? Lovely name, has a similar feel, and less likely to be shortened.

I love Robin! I love Rowan too. There was a Rowan at my dd's nursery who used to get Row-Row. But he was a cute, squishy toddler, so think that was why. Don't imagine it will get shortened to Row-Row when he's 26!

I know an adult Robin who is always Robin. I know a few Robs who may be Robin or Robert! I've never asked.

We call our Robin Robby or Robin, however, he only lets direct family call him Robby and everyone else calls him Robin. He soon corrects them if they try and shorten it. He's 5.

I think you could try and insist people use full name Robin. I guess as school progresses it would become harder to enforce but I think it would be easy enough at nursery and things.
Rowan is ok but very trendy these days, not as classic as Robin. The Rowans I know (and theres quite a few girls and boys) often get it shortened to Row anyway and that's worse than Rob.

There is a Robin in our street and every one calls him Bobbin, which I think is cute. He is a pensioner, but it is still cute!

I had Robin as a contender for if I had a boy. But I admit I was worried about it being shortened to Rob or Robbie which I personally don’t like.

I do know an adult Robin though. And he is only ever refers to as Robin and never heard anyone shorten it. He’s fab too and makes me like the name more.

I also know a Thomas who is never ever known as Tom or Tommy so it can be done with some effort 😕

I have a 16 year old one and a 56 year year old one. Neither have ever been shortened to Rob.

There was one teacher who kept calling my son Robbie when he was in kindergarten but she was Scottish and seemed to think that was his actual name.

I think shortenings depend on different people and different stages of life. So everyone might call a child Robin at school, Robbie at home, Rob by co workers as an adult for an example.

For another example my first name was always shortened at school and now almost never is. My dh is professionally known by the common diminutive of his first name whereas his family and I call him by the full name and diminutive interchangeably.

I'm friends with a Robin, now in his mid 30s, who I've known since school. I've never known it to be shortened. If anything, calling him by his full name helps distinguish him from all the Robs I know.
