Thoughts ? It would of been DC2's name if she was a boy we didn't find out baby's sex before the birth.

He will be called Corny - do you want that?

Awwlookatmybabyspider Sun 15-Nov-20 00:25:16

Sounds like a boil on someone’s foot.
Sorry op but I really don’t like it.

llm24 Sun 15-Nov-20 00:26:44

What would you name your child this , each to their own but would t be me , sorry .

Iminaglasscaseofemotion Sun 15-Nov-20 00:28:19

Absolutely not.

SleepingStandingUp Sun 15-Nov-20 00:29:41

I adore it.

But I struggle with what it would get shortened to. Cory I guess if you adopted it early would stick but I'd fear Corny. Neil is the other shortening o guess which o dislike

Exactly this. It's a stunning name, with unfortunate nickname options.

DramaAlpaca Sun 15-Nov-20 01:18:24

It's old fashioned now but has occasionally been used in Ireland with the diminutive Con.

SwedishEdith Sun 15-Nov-20 01:20:32

Love this name. Love it. My kids don't agree. There's an Uncle Cornelius in the Barbar stories grin

Maybe Conrad or Linus instead?

alexdgr8 Sun 15-Nov-20 01:22:49

i think it's a fine name. classical and biblical. dignified.
much used in ireland, where if shortened becomes Con.

BluePeterVag Sun 15-Nov-20 01:32:24

I am the Great Cornholio! I need TP for my bunghole. A la Beavis and Butthead.

It’s a no from me.

IamnotwhouthinkIam Sun 15-Nov-20 03:31:17

No - doesn't have a pleasant sound, sorry OP. If you love extravagant Roman names stick with the similar Cassius (made kinda cool by Muhammad Ali), or the more useable Lucian, Marcus, Maximilian, Rufus sort.

August20 Sun 15-Nov-20 03:54:20

I love it BUT I think you would have to be a certain personality to pull it off which is obviously hard to predict with a baby.

Topseyt Sun 15-Nov-20 04:26:34

I do quite like it, but would be very put off by the possible shortenings that people might well apply to it.

Aquamarine1029 Sun 15-Nov-20 04:37:19

A huge, unequivocal NOPE.

Tootsietoot Sun 15-Nov-20 04:44:25

I would hate to be called Cornelius.

TwangBadge Sun 15-Nov-20 04:46:27

Please be a troll post. Please.

Thirdlifecrisis Sun 15-Nov-20 05:02:41

It reminds me of the fairy prince in Thumbelina. Considering Thumbelina's reaction when he introduces himself is to giggle and say "that's a funny name" before correcting herself, I wouldn't inflict it on a child grin

firstworldprobhunz Sun 15-Nov-20 05:11:38

Sorry not a troll, although I have two DC now with Celtic type names, so I don't think it will be used sadHadn't really thought about shortenings, I really dislike people shortening my name, but actually don't mind Corny as don't think it's used much these days as much.

isitsnowingyet Sun 15-Nov-20 05:46:24

Hehehe there might be a reason it's not used much these days grin

It sounds like a bunion

Claricethecat45 Sun 15-Nov-20 07:06:24

Con - is often an abbreviation
It was my late Fathers second middle name

He was named after an Uncle (Cornelius) who could never spell it a a child - so he was ever after known as 'Uncle Dot' as he signed his name as a . (dot)

Actually I love the name and proudly own a Cornelian stone ring given to me by my darling Dad

isthismylifenow Sun 15-Nov-20 07:14:51

Do you have a Dutch/ South Afticsn background?

Cornelius is a very common name here, usually shortened to Corrie

Squeakerfoot Sun 15-Nov-20 10:41:35

I think it's an impressive name and I like it, but not sure I would choose it personally as it's a big name to grow up with! In A Tree Grows In Brooklyn the brother is called Neeley, short for Cornelius.

Steamfan Sun 15-Nov-20 10:43:30

It's the name of a character in the Planet of the Apes film, so no
