I prefer the Jos spelling, like the cricketer, but I like the name. And I’ve met the cricketer, he was lovely Grin

@ShellsAndSunrises is it still said the same? Joss rather than Jos(e) like hose?

I like the name, but I wonder if people would struggle not to say josh

It's fine. I'd use it as short for Joseph.

Love it, it was in my family.

To me it just sounds like josh said with a lisp which has always put me off

I quite like it, but I prefer Jem, which to me is in a similar vein.

Absolutely love it. When I first heard Joss Ackland's beautiful voice when I was a child in the early eighties I decided any son of mine would be a Joss. A good friend of mine then named her son Joss & it didn't really work with the surname I had by that point so I never got my Joss. But I think it's one of the nicest names around.

I'm also old enough to remember Jossy's Giants Grin

I knew a rather posh Joss once, his actual name was Jocelyn - which I think he found hard to live with.

Celticdawn5 · 16/09/2020 18:18

Joss is usually the short version of Jocelyn

Here's a Joss for you. (Joss Wayar)
Suits him!

It OK - I really love Jess and Ross, so am trying to figure out why I'm a bit meh about Joss. I think it's because I met one I didn't line once (he was probably a Jocelin though)

I know a joss. Really suits him.

Awful sorry

Report
TheNighthawk · 16/09/2020 18:26

Only if short for Jocelyn. Otherwise silly.

NO

I like it - it's quite a popular kids name in my area and I've seen it used for girls and boys just as it is - not short for anything.

I knew a nice Joss when I was younger (he was older). I like it. People mistook it for Josh a fair bit, but that happens with some names - my daughter's sounds a lot like two other names.

GreenJellyBean · 16/09/2020 18:39

I think it’s a great name!

In Jamaica Inn, Joss is short for Joshua. And his brother is Jem. I like it.
