Alfred (Alfie) - no

  1. Arthur - not mad about it. Sounds much nicer in Welsh
  2. Frederick (Fred)- not mad about it although I know a lovely one
  3. George - fine
  4. Liam - only if you are Irish. Possibly dated
  5. Richard - fine
  6. Samuel (Sam) - really like
  7. Sean - only if you are Irish. Possibly dated

I’m not a fan of Richard. I met a baby called Richard and it just didn’t suit him at all (in my opinion!)
Love Samuel, Fred & Alfie 😍x

Ooh everyone hates Sean! That was one of my favourites.
@BeMorePacific
Partner's favourite is Richard but I also can't picture a baby Richard, I just picture him emerging as a fully formed 30 year old man! Whereas partner says he can't picture an adult Alfie, which is probably more of a concern, but I've met multiple adult Alfies and I can imagine Alfie all the way through life, plus he can always switch to Fred...
I also feel a bit self-conscious about the pronouncedly pivoting nationality between choices but all the crossover choices were vetoed by DP for being too "boring"/Biblical...

Sean is a lovely name (in Ireland anyway).
Sam, Liam and Richard are also nice. Sam is my favourite.

Arthur is an awful name. I can never understand the love for her it on MN.
Don’t like George.
Alfie is nice, Alfred not so much.

  1. Arthur, (lovely, but popular where I live. Like, you would rarely not hear it on a day out somewhere with lots of young kids)
  2. George
  3. Samuel
  4. Richard
  5. Sean
  6. Frederick
  7. Liam
  8. Alfred, (I put this bottom, but only because I don't like Alfie. If you shortened to Fred, I actually prefer Alfred to Sean, so this would be #5)

Liam - not keen
Richard - deserves a comeback

I like Frederick, Alfred and Arthur. Frederick probably no 1 because it’s the least used of the three.

I agree Richard is due to come back soon - it’s a strong, classic, “Royal” name. You could get in first and be ahead of the curve!

Sam is unexceptionable - but I can think of at least a dozen without even trying among my boys’ schoolmates. They are teenagers though, not sure about its popularity for babies.

Sean is fine, not particularly keen on Liam or George.

Samuel is a nice classic name. My favourite on your list.
Absolutley loathe liam and Sean.
Richard is a classic, "proper"name so could work. I havent heard of any at the moment so thetes a reasonable chance it might start up become popular again in a few years.

Frederick & Arthur are my favourites, though Arthur is becoming very popular now.
I like Alfred too, though not Alfie, Alf would be alright as a grown up nick name.

George, Liam and Sean are my least favourite.

Have you considered Seamus or Lorcan?
