What does everyone think of this name? My other children both have two middle names aswell. Julie is after my grandma so definitely want that in there. Unsure on Eve, I love Myra though! Last initial is W.

Unfortunately, Myra will forever be associated with Myra Hindley. I just wouldn’t do it.

Never thought about that!! I'm put off, it's so hard finding a name!

Agree you just can't do Myra.

Sorry! Didn’t mean to be a naysayer. It’s a shame, as it is a lovely name - just has really unfortunate associations. If you want something from that “generation” of names, I really like Margaret and think that is due for a comeback (like Meg for short too). That goes well with the Julie Eve as well.

What about Myla instead of Myra

I'm loving an M name, I have an E and an A, so I'm wanting to go with M.

You can’t call a baby Myra

Mara or maya are good alternatives. Julie is a nice comeback name

Myra is a gorgeous name, but the Hindley association is hard to shake off.

Although according to the 2018 baby name stats there were 101 babies named Myra in 2018, ranked 431. This is the England and Wales stats. So clearly some people are choosing it, however I don't think I would be brave enough to choose it myself!

Alternatives:
Lyra
Mary
Marie
Mari (pron. Marry - Welsh for Mary)
Mara
Myla
Mila (mee-la)

Another Welsh version of Mary is Mair - pronounced like Myra but without the a, so Myrr. It's probably the closest you'll get sound wise, but it's tricky to say without it sounding like mire if you're not a Welsh speaker.

I prefer Julia or Juliet to Julie, TBH.
Eve is nice.
I knew a lovely Moira so I am a bit biased but I do quite like it, though I struggle to se it for a little girl somehow.

I came on to say the same thing about Myra. When I think about it though it’s odd because I don’t feel the same way about Rose (West). I guess it’s because Myra is more unusual. Seems sad for a name to be forever associated with one evil woman.

Love Myla & Mila as suggested by PPs.

Myra is a lovely name and I’m not sure the Hindley association will so strong in 10-20 years plus. You could discount lots of lovely names by association!

Otherwise what about Meira which is quite similar. Also has a Welsh, Scandi and Indian connection if any of that helps!

Myra has too many connotations for me. I’m in my 40s though. Maybe younger people don’t know the name like that at all.
