What does everyone think of this name? My other children both have two middle names aswell. Julie is after my grandma so definitely want that in there. Unsure on Eve, I love Myra though! Last initial is W.

Unfortunately, Myra will forever be associated with Myra Hindley. I just wouldn’t do it.

mumma1019 Sat 01-Aug-20 09:10:50

Never thought about that!! I'm put off, it's so hard finding a name!

Any ideas of any similar to Myra?

How about Lyra instead?

1Bobbinwinder Sat 01-Aug-20 09:14:01

I love Mara.

Agree you just can't do Myra.

Cooltalkin Sat 01-Aug-20 09:14:23

Not Myra , as pp said it will always be associated with hindley
Lots of other m names
Or something else entirely

Sorry! Didn’t mean to be a naysayer. It’s a shame, as it is a lovely name - just has really unfortunate associations. If you want something from that “generation” of names, I really like Margaret and think that is due for a comeback (like Meg for short too). That goes well with the Julie Eve as well.

Whybirdwhy Sat 01-Aug-20 09:15:51

Maria Julie Eve is lovely

jollybobs89 Sat 01-Aug-20 09:17:04

What about Myla instead of Myra

mumma1019 Sat 01-Aug-20 09:17:31

I'm loving an M name, I have an E and an A, so I'm wanting to go with M.

Maia? I like the name Julia as a first name...

Jennygentle Sat 01-Aug-20 09:21:36

Myra is just a complete no, unfortunately.

MsTSwift Sat 01-Aug-20 09:22:38

You can’t call a baby Myra

allinadaystwerk Sat 01-Aug-20 09:25:37

Mara or maya are good alternatives. Julie is a nice comeback name

CaffiSaliMali Sat 01-Aug-20 09:27:05

Myra is a gorgeous name, but the Hindley association is hard to shake off.

Although according to the 2018 baby name stats there were 101 babies named Myra in 2018, ranked 431. This is the England and Wales stats. So clearly some people are choosing it, however I don't think I would be brave enough to choose it myself!

Mari (pron. Marry - Welsh for Mary)
Mila (mee-la)

Another Welsh version of Mary is Mair - pronounced like Myra but without the a, so Myrr. It's probably the closest you'll get sound wise, but it's tricky to say without it sounding like mire if you're not a Welsh speaker.

I prefer Julia or Juliet to Julie, TBH.
Eve is nice.
I knew a lovely Moira so I am a bit biased but I do quite like it, though I struggle to se it for a little girl somehow.

I came on to say the same thing about Myra. When I think about it though it’s odd because I don’t feel the same way about Rose (West). I guess it’s because Myra is more unusual. Seems sad for a name to be forever associated with one evil woman.

AcrobaticCardigan Sat 01-Aug-20 09:33:30

Love Myla & Mila as suggested by PPs.

guineapig1 Sat 01-Aug-20 09:34:10

Myra is a lovely name and I’m not sure the Hindley association will so strong in 10-20 years plus. You could discount lots of lovely names by association!

Otherwise what about Meira which is quite similar. Also has a Welsh, Scandi and Indian connection if any of that helps!

Lockdownlooks Sat 01-Aug-20 09:34:15

Myra has too many connotations for me. I’m in my 40s though. Maybe younger people don’t know the name like that at all.

MaverickDanger Sat 01-Aug-20 09:34:37

I know a Myah.
