What do you think of first name Joy?

Really drawn to the name and its simplicity.

I like it but it will only work with some surnames

Floralnomad Thu 30-Jul-20 21:55:06

Dull , sorry

WinnieLowCo Thu 30-Jul-20 21:55:34

Refreshingly short.

Ellmau Thu 30-Jul-20 21:59:58

I think it's lovely.

Zoomintheroom Thu 30-Jul-20 22:02:26

Love it.

Merename Thu 30-Jul-20 22:06:22

Love it too.

AvoidingTheWineAisle Thu 30-Jul-20 22:07:13

It’s beautiful.

Aquamarine1029 Thu 30-Jul-20 22:09:30

I really don't like it. I've known two Joys and ironically they are both miserable, hateful women.

ElsieBeard Thu 30-Jul-20 22:40:57

It's beautiful. my DD has it for a middle name!

I like it a lot, but probably prefer it for a middle name. I love short, neat names.

RhianFuckingMorris Fri 31-Jul-20 00:32:34

I like it. Simple and relatively unusual. Not that many baby Joys at the moment so she would be one of a few without a shit/made up name/spelt wierd name that screams I'm desperate to be unusual.

MaleficentsCrow Fri 31-Jul-20 00:53:23

I adore the name Joy. It's my "if I ever have another baby and it's a girl" name of choice. So I'm biased haha

I really like it, especially as a middle name. I think it’s about time it came back into fashion.

My only reservation is that it’s a virtue for the bearer of the name to live up to, and not everyone can manage that. Mind you, so is Grace, and that hasn’t stopped it being super popular.

I love it, it's classic and beautiful. Don't demote it to a middle name, it should be first.

Quite confusing for a little person because it's so similar to toy and boy. Faye is also simple and similar in meaning.

ButterflyRuns Fri 31-Jul-20 01:20:50

I like it, although I'd be more drawn to it as a middle name.

Pegaroo Fri 31-Jul-20 06:56:49

It’s a happy name and probably old lady enough to deserve a revival

MyNameHasBeenTaken Fri 31-Jul-20 09:26:01

We know a primary age joy.
Lovely simple name.
But I always smile when I hear
Joy, come here
Joy, get down
Joy, listen
Shouted across the playground

Littlepond Fri 31-Jul-20 09:27:48

I love the name Joy. It’s so simple but pretty. There is always the risk that she won’t be very ... joyful... I suppose.

TheGriffle Fri 31-Jul-20 09:29:36

I love the name Joy but as with previous posters, the one and only one I know is a miserable sod which puts me off the name!

SomeWateryTart Fri 31-Jul-20 10:35:43

I like it! I know one. She definitely isn't a laugh a minute tbf, but she is super bright. I met her at uni. She is an Oxbridge grad. Very religious. Loooooong hair and no make up. She was joyous, but in a holy way iyswim. So no, not a barrel of laughs, or the life and soul of the party, but she was joyful in her own way.

daisypond Fri 31-Jul-20 11:11:22

I like it.

babynamelover Fri 31-Jul-20 11:13:51

Not a fan sorry. There's one at school with my daughter. One of those names that seems like a lot to live up to.
