Recently come across this and love it! What do people think? Would pronounce like lion but with a 'z'. Actually like it for a boy.

For real? No not good because of the Zionist associations.

I actually like it. Are you Jewish, because it is definitely a very strong Hebrew name.

This is the only thing I thought might be an issue!

Unless you're religious, heavily, I wouldn't.

No I'm not @Aquamarine1029 which may make it odd to use...

I think it's not just odd but really quite offensive for a lot of people, so quite tricky for your child to be burdened with.

That is my opinion. I really like the way Zion sounds, but the religious connotation is just far too heavy. I had this issue with a few names I liked when naming my children. I had to discount them because I have no religious affiliation whatsoever, so they ultimately didn't feel right.

There's also the Bob Marley song which may be worth taking into account (Iron, Lion, Zion).

So you’re not jewish but want to call your kid after the word for the movement for a Jewish homeland? I really wouldn’t. What about Cohen? Still offensive to Jewish people but your anti semites will likely be less bothered

Lauryn Hill has a son called Zion and wrote the most beautiful song, called To Zion, I think.

I don’t think it’s that uncommon in the States, among African Americans especially. I wouldn’t instantly think of Zionism.

Zion means utopia or promised land in Rastafarian culture too.

Zion is a hill in Jerusalem, and the word Jews use for their homeland.

Using Zion if you're not Jewish would be like using Mohammed if you're not Muslim, or Christopher if you're not Christian.

I’ve only heard it with regards to children of Jamaican origin, tbh I would find it weird on another race

Be prepared for years of people asking the origin, spelling etc etc.
Be prepared for your child to ask you why you called him a daft name.

I would suggest doing some reading around Zionism before using it. It is a very politically loaded name.

Of all the beautiful, inoffensive names in the world how could you burden a child with this name. Their whole life will be marred by this. How awful. I'd like to think a registrar would stop you.
