I'm reading a book at the moment and one of the characters is called Seredith. I've never heard this name before. Have you?
What do you think of it?

Like it’s a typo and should be Meredith

I don't like it. It's like someone's trying to be a bit edgy and different with Meredith.

I don't like it. It sounds like a typo of Meredth which is only marginally better as a name.

Seren/Meredith mash up

Scrabble name

I’d assume it was a typo for Meredith. Which is lovely btw.

It is awful.

Yep! Exactly what I was thinking.

There's a trend in some YA/sci-fi books to make up names by mashing real ones together. Are there other odd ones in the book?

Typo for Meredith.

Hideous

I don't think it's hideous at all, but yes, very YA "unique".

I think I would mishear it as "Sarabeth".

Seren is a welsh name, think it is nice without the 'dith' stuck on. I think it means star, but I am not welsh so not sure.

It's not YA or science fiction. I was just curious and wondered if it was an old name as The Binding is historical fiction of sorts.

I'm not massively keen on the sound, but then, I don't even like the name Seren...think it's the Ser- bit I'm not especially keen on. That said, I think Seren is a lovely alternative to Seredith.

I also really like Meredith, with nn options Merry, Red, Edie.

Apologies if this sounds brutal, at worst it sounds like a std, at best like a typo.
Sorry!

Report
FelicityPike · 30/07/2020 08:47

I think it’s horrible. Sorry.
Meredith is lovely and fairly unusual these days.

Report
Chickoletta · 30/07/2020 08:49

Thought it was a typo. Meredith is beautiful.

This was my thought too! I used to know a lady called Meredith, though, and always liked that name.

Awful. Like Renesmee.

It's fantasy, which is why the author has made up some names.
