I'm reading a book at the moment and one of the characters is called Seredith. I've never heard this name before. Have you?
What do you think of it?

Like it’s a typo and should be Meredith

Spied Wed 29-Jul-20 22:59:12

I don't like it. It's like someone's trying to be a bit edgy and different with Meredith.

WorriedMummy2020 Wed 29-Jul-20 23:05:51

I don't like it. It sounds like a typo of Meredth which is only marginally better as a name.

moklty Wed 29-Jul-20 23:16:27

Seren/Meredith mash up

Oakmaiden Wed 29-Jul-20 23:17:54

Scrabble name

PineappleSquosh Wed 29-Jul-20 23:19:27

I’d assume it was a typo for Meredith. Which is lovely btw.

RedRec Wed 29-Jul-20 23:21:57

It is awful.

Yep! Exactly what I was thinking.

RiaOverTheRainbow Wed 29-Jul-20 23:36:29

There's a trend in some YA/sci-fi books to make up names by mashing real ones together. Are there other odd ones in the book?

Allmyeye Wed 29-Jul-20 23:37:34

Typo for Meredith.

Awwlookatmybabyspider Thu 30-Jul-20 02:29:30

It's like Meredith gone wrong

MrsKypp Thu 30-Jul-20 02:30:13

It reminds me of Shoreditch! haha.

I don't think it's hideous at all, but yes, very YA "unique".

I think I would mishear it as "Sarabeth".

Seren is a welsh name, think it is nice without the 'dith' stuck on. I think it means star, but I am not welsh so not sure.

Tillygetsit Thu 30-Jul-20 06:13:24

It's not YA or science fiction. I was just curious and wondered if it was an old name as The Binding is historical fiction of sorts.

Sounds like a prescription drug

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou Thu 30-Jul-20 06:21:46

I don’t like it at all

JacquelineLadyBugg Thu 30-Jul-20 08:33:33

I'm not massively keen on the sound, but then, I don't even like the name Seren...think it's the Ser- bit I'm not especially keen on. That said, I think Seren is a lovely alternative to Seredith.

I also really like Meredith, with nn options Merry, Red, Edie.

allfalldown47 Thu 30-Jul-20 08:42:53

Apologies if this sounds brutal, at worst it sounds like a std, at best like a typo.

FelicityPike Thu 30-Jul-20 08:47:12

I think it’s horrible. Sorry.
Meredith is lovely and fairly unusual these days.

Chickoletta Thu 30-Jul-20 08:49:56

Thought it was a typo. Meredith is beautiful.

NataliaOsipova Thu 30-Jul-20 08:51:03

Sounds like a prescription drug

This was my thought too! I used to know a lady called Meredith, though, and always liked that name.

GoshHashana Thu 30-Jul-20 09:32:48

Awful. Like Renesmee.
