Struggling for girl names!

Jnl90 · 29/07/2020 22:11

Hi,

We are expecting a girl in november and we already have a little boy with a unique name (dont know anyone else called it).

We like names that are different and not going to be lots of them in their class but at the same time dont want a name that just sounds silly.

We currently have the following on our shortlist but no 100% on any:

Orla
Marcie
Elvie

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks!

I immediately thought of Exie. I knew a woman with this name and she was lovely, and it was her given name.

Also...

Etta
Reva (pronounced ree-vah)
Ella
Elsie

@SauvignonBlanketyBlank

I really like Vada (vay-da) only heard of it when watched My Girl years ago, never heard it since.

She would run the risk of being called Darth!

How about going for a name that has fallen out of fashion?
Deborah
Gladys
Carina
Vera

or a Biblical name that isnt well known? eg Vashti or Hepzibah?

Or from mythology?
Ariadne, Hera, Leda, .Persephone, Calliope?

I love Orla. Not so keen on the others, but they are definitely more unusual.

How about:

Merryn
Isadora
Juniper
Gwendolyn
Aurora
Maple
Emme

Short girls names starting with vowels and/or ending in 'ee' or 'ah' sounds are very popular right so they all sort of blend into one for me alot are lovely sounding - but I'd honestly say that that 50% of the under 5's I know of are Ivy's, Isabelle/Izzy, Ava's, Alba's Eva's, Ella's, Evie's, Emmy's and Grace/Gracie's - I say this a DM to DD4 with a two syllable 'E' name - that although not actually popular in itself at all often gets misread/pronounced as another increasingly popular 'E' name so if you are wanting something a bit more stand out I'd consider longer names 'harder' sounding consonants that have softer nickname options.

What about:

Astrid
Bianca
Joselyn
Gwendoline
Miranda
Meredith
Veronica
Vivienne

Sylvie and Marla were the first 2 that came to mind. Not not taste tbh but fit with the ones you've suggested.
