Having DS2. My dad is called Tony. He has been a big huge support in my life and DS1. Is it too outdated?

I love Antonio nn Tony

Yes it's definitely outdated. Maybe it could be the middle name?

I like it and think it's time it made a comeback!

I think it's fantastic! Tony is such a cute nickname for a small boy , and he'll still have other options as he grows...

Love it.

Yes go for it Antonio or Anthony are both nice names and lend themselves well to Tony as a NN.

I think it's nice
Nobody bats an eyelid at Toby.
Tony would be lovely to hear in the playground. Do it! You'll regret it if not, especially as it's a special name with meaning.

@Whatsyourflava conflicted to using Tony on the BC or Antonio. I love both!

Not sure on Tony itself. I love Anthony, though.

Given how popular Toby is in comparison, he'll be correcting people quite often as more people will consider Toby as a name of his generation, as it were as opposed to Tony which while classic is not a name I've heard of in anyone under the age of about 35.
My uncle is Anthony, known as Tony. I love the full name. Certainly time for a comeback.

So Tony being the first name on BC or Antonio?

I'm brave enough to use Tony but I won't be telling dad until hes born.

Antonio seems a bit odd to me if you haven’t Italian links. And yet Tony on its own doesn’t appeal to me.
Anton - with Tony for short?

I’d use Anthony or Anton unless you have Italian roots.

My two year old is called Anthony ( great grandad & same birthday ) . His dad calls him tony I call him anth as not keen on Tony. I like the other name you have or, like suggested, as a middle name ?

2boysinapod · 30/06/2020 23:30

I have no Italian roots. DS1 has a german name. I have a spanish name. It's all over the place in my family Grin.

I Am surrounded by adult tonys. I teach in a multi ethnic school and honestly children dont bat an eyelid at names.

Id definitely go anthony on the bc though. Nobody needs to actually know that. I actually know someone who goes by tony short for thomas. He chose tony because thomas was so unfashionable when he was young 😂.

Tony is a fabulous name in it’s own right, absolutely love it. If it’s what you want go for it OP!

Oh, I love it! Retro cool! And I'm sure your Dad would be thrilled, too.

I’d give him an Antonio/Antony/Anton etc
That way he has the choice of Ant or Tony at school. xx

Tony sounds great for a little boy. Different in a good way and lovely for your dad. I would go for Anthony on the bc personally.

Another one for Anthony on the bc but Tony for short.

Antoin (Irish for Anthony), Anton or Antony are options for the BC if you don’t like Anthony.
