Big fan of both, but slightly prefer Hamish (DH vetoed it)

Hamish. Great name. Samuel is a nice enough classic but a bit boring, but Hamish is really cool.

Hamish is ok but I just picture it being said in a a Scottish accent. Lovely accent ...but I’m not Scottish so I wouldn’t use it myself.
Also know a Hamish who gets mostly called Ham. Not a great nickname

I would expect Hamish to be called Ham.
Samuel is okay but v v boring.

I live in Scotland so like Hamish but wonder how it woukd sound being used elsewhere.

I've know two Hamish's, one in Britain, one in the USA and neither were called Ham.

I like both, but I think Sam is a boring nn, when Samuel is a cool full name.

Love Hamish. It is quite scottish sounding, if you are OK with that?

I wouldn't say Ham as a nn, because it doesn't sound liek Ham. I can imagine it being shortened to 'Hame' (don't know how you would spell that)

I'm Scottish and I have never come across a Hamish shortened to Ham.I like both it and Samuel, so sorry, no help there.

Both are great names! I think I very slightly prefer Hamish but Samuel is a strong and classic name.

If you like the Scottish vibe then I do like Lachlan as suggested above, Alexander, Ewan or Gordon nn Gordie.

I've known several Hamish's, all outside Scotland and with no Scots heritage. It's a popular name in lots of places. I've never come across one shortened to Ham. Great name.
