(52 Posts)We really like Skye for a girl but don't know if it's too short with our surname (Fox). What do people think? I'm not keen on the longer Skylar.
It sounds like 'Guy Fawkes' to me.
Sounds like an American TV channel. Sorry OP.
It's too similar to Sly Fox
I don’t think the name is too short with your surname, but it does make me think of sly fox, sorry.
I think it's a beautiful name but I'm not sure it totally works with surname imo.
Fox is a great surname though and pretty much anything else will sound great with it though
Skye is lovely but Skye and Fox together sounds a bit like two tv stations!
I’d love the surname Fox!
How did we not even make the sly fox connection Back to the drawing board.
I'm actually finding our surname very hard, thought it'd go with lots but it's quite difficult. I really liked Iona and then said it aloud The other risk is a name sounding too much like a pornstar!
Iona Fox 😂
Mine is awkward as many names wouldn't work. My maiden name was really good because anything would work with that pretty much.
I like Skye but it wouldn't work really with my name either.
Skye Fox sounds too much like Sky box.
Oh, please call her Iona! That would be the best name ever!
What about Isla?
A short snappy name could work well - I've got a friend called Jim Fox and it sounds pretty cool.
Skye and Iona are scottish islands. You could have Isla(y), Shona, Barra, Benbecula, Ailsa Craig, Hilda(say)...
Wilde would make a pretty name for a girl, or how about Arctic or Desert.
You could be a bit more traditional and opt for Emilia or Samantha.
I have a single syllable name and surname and I don't like it.
It always sounds really abrupt and comes out like I have barked it at someone!
Benbecula
Although this is not any better
I love the name, not too common and might have a family connection to the Isle of Skye. Agree though that it just doesnt seem to go with Fox. Bear in mind that she might change it later if married, but might not.
Another option is a longer middle name: Skye Elizabeth, Skye Bethany etc. She then has a choice of multiple names if Skye Fox is really an issue such as Beth, Liz etc.
Some names that might work with Fox
Isla Fox
Jessica Fox
Jasmine Fox
Hannah Fox
Lily Fox
Megan Fox
Chloe Fox
Zoe Fox
Isabelle Fox
Laila Fox
Katie Fox
Mia Fox
I love a short name with a single syllable surname. Sounds really strong. Longer names work well too though.
I like:
Ruby Fox
Bella Fox
Anna Fox
Agreed with avoiding Iona - also best to avoid Ophelia Fox since it sounds a bit euphemistic 😂
May I suggest a long name like Arabella? Love it but we have a long surname so it would take too long to say someones name.
I love your surname but I think it needs a longer first name.
Eliza
Jemima
Annabel
Clementine (clemmie)
Margaret (Maggie)
Edith
@SinkGirl hehe, I did like Ophelia as well!
We do like Isla but would prefer a name not in the top 10 I think. We do have a Scottish connection but aren't that bothered about choosing a name based on that.
Like the suggestions for Lily (maybe too popular?) and Laila too - Mia Fox would be a bit problematic though! Ruby Fox was on out list but written off as a pornstar!
Fox is such a cool surname !
Sadie Fox
Shauna Fox
Georgina Fox
Yana Fox (Yar -na)
I like Arabella but DH doesn't! Already an Edith in the family. Not keen on Margaret but love Margot - DH doesn't!
Fiona Fox?
