Struggling to agree on names! Please help

Myself and partner are struggling to agree on names. I have 2 DS ages 18 and 16 called Regan and Logan and my partner has 2 DC ages 20 and 19 called Ryan and Robyn.

I like River but my partner hates it. We both like Summer for a girl and my partner also likes Paisley for a girl but we live in Glasgow so I feel we live really really close to the town called Paisley??? My partner also would like to name a boy after his father Walter??? Thoughts??? I'm not so keen although the idea is lovely.

Surname will be Parker, any suggestions?

I have a 2 year old Summer and always get compliments on her name. Mumsnet seems to hate it, though.

I'm not sure on Walter. I know somebody who had a Walter about two months ago and it just doesn't seem right on a baby!

Summer is a lovely name. If you had Paisley as middle name it won't come up often so I don't think the place name would be a problem.

I quite like Walter. Walt would be a cool nickname!

Walter is bad imo (but yes, lovely idea). And I don't think you can call a child Paisley if you live in Glasgow.

I don't have strong feelings either way about Summer.

How about Dylan for a boy? Or Rowan (could be boy or girl)?

Summer and River are really nice - glad you both agree on summer at least

I know a couple of little Walters at the moment, I think it's making a comeback. Neither have had any negative reactions as far as I know.

Paisley is great, Anfield for a middle name.

Thank you for all your replies, I really never thought about Logan feeling left out so that's definitely something to think about ..thank you!

I know quite a few Dylan's so that put me off and Rowan I dont think my partner would like as it close to Ronan and I was a massive boyzone fan lol ...

I think Summer might be our 1st choice for a girl but still struggling for a boys name! My partner also loves Rocco but im not keen on that either! Glad people think the same about Paisley because we live in Glasgow! River will remain my favourite I think ...

It would be cute to call him Walter as my partner is so close to his dad and fully respects and looks up to him so much but I defo think it would get shortened to Wee Watty or something and I really dont like the idea of that.

Summer would be a great choice

I’m not so keen on Rocco (but could be a grower) and also think maybe Logan would be left out if another R name

I have a little baby girl called Rowan and sadly, like you predicted, she does get muddled up with all the Roman’s and Ronans round here. I have to say “Rowan with a W”. Annoying 😤 @WeeDinah - it’s seen as more of a girls name in Scotland according to the top 100 lists there.

Walter is ok I think. I think it will get shortened though

I really like River @WeeDinah

@plantpotting yeah another one who likes River, I'm hoping it will grow on him although I would be very happy with summer. I suppose you could have river as a unisex name for either!

I do like Walter but I myself and my partners dad both dont think it suits a baby so I'm glad his dad is at least on my side.

Our mums and dad are all in there 70's and we love to name after them and carry it down but I'm afraid they all have really old fashioned names like Jean, Julia, Walter and my sister is Nancy after my grandmother she could never have any children so I would of loved to have named a baby girl after my sister but I hate the name. My dad is Andrew and my brother who sadly passed away was also andrew so I thought of Andy for a girl but again my DP doesn't like it. My DS Regan is Regan Andrew anyways. My grandfather was Issac and it seems to be making a comeback but my family dont want me to name the baby after anybody, they all think it should be something new and fresh.

Like both Summer and Walter. Go with whatever feels right. Walter would only be a baby for a year and he will grow into a man eventually. So while some consider it an "adult" name, there are "baby" names like Albie which 40 year old men will eventually have.
I don't know, adult names, baby names, dog names, it's all a bit silly isn't it. Just go with what you like and he or she would be nothing else but Walter or Summer.

I've got a bit of a thing about forenames and surnames where I don't like them starting with the same letter or ending with the same sound....
That would rule out Paisley Parker for the 'P' and River, Summer and Walter for the 'er'

Sorry OP, it's just a personal thing of mine

Bluemoon2468 I have to agree with you, Summer is much nicer

Summer is lovely.
You could have two middle names. Andi could be your pick and your partner picks the other

I’m so sorry to read about you brother and also Nancy not being able to have children 💔

Summer is fine. I like Walter. It is coming back. But I also really like Julia, Nancy and Jean much more than Summer. Not Paisley.

@plantpotting thank you! Yeah my sister is 16 years older than me, i was a late baby. She suffered bad with endometriosis and went through ivf for years with no luck. Shes been with her husband since I was 3 so I always wanted her to have a baby because my sibling were much older than me but it sadly never happened, then my brother passed away at the age of 19 in a road accident so my oldest son was the first long awaited grandchild to my mum and dad. Shes the best auntie to my 2 DS, I had her present with me when I gave birth just to try and include her. Shes had to get her full womb removed at 38, shes 55 now but it was so heartbreaking to watch her go through it as she would have been the best mum ever and her and her husband had everything to offer a child ...its sad.

What about Clyde for a boy given you like River for a girl? ;)
i think Summer goes with your other names but I don't think Walter really does.
