I really like the name Sadie but my husband says it's a pets name (dog/horse). Do you agree with him?

There’s a gorgeous little Sadie at our local school

Nope, just listen to the song ‘Sadie the cleaning lady’ by John Farnham. That’s the only Sadie I have heard of!

SquashedFlyBiscuit Tue 14-Jan-20 09:58:23

I think of marquid de Sade and Sadism... maybe not everyone does!

I met one recently and thought it was an awful name (just because I would think Sade and Sad.)

I know a couple of teens called Sadie and a woman in her 30s. I don't think of it as a pet name at all.

DowntonCrabby Tue 14-Jan-20 09:54:25

I love it

MintyMabel Tue 14-Jan-20 09:51:35

I like it but that doesn't really matter. If OH hates it, probably best avoided.

Grufallosfriends Tue 14-Jan-20 09:49:55

I just see Sad and Sadist when I see the name Sadie.

Poorolddaddypig Tue 14-Jan-20 09:16:28

Although it does remind me of Sadie Mae Glutz, the Manson girl who was there the night of the Sharon Tate murder. Which is the only reason I didn’t consider it for my DD (had just finished reading the book about it when I found out I was pregnant!)

DS would have been Sadie.

Love it.

terriblecustomercervix Haha doesn't surprise me at all that my MIL was talking shite. She always did! I'm glad it doesn't mean that, I've always loved the name- she obviously didn't and tried to make something up about it. Kind of typical of her tbh.

RoobyRoobyRooby Tue 14-Jan-20 07:20:05

I adore Sadie. I think it’s so lovely and is a name that works well across ages.

whateverhappenstheremore Tue 14-Jan-20 00:55:33

It's cute

Powerplant Tue 14-Jan-20 00:52:54

Sorry but as a child our dog was called Sadie so not my first choice

MissPepper8 Tue 14-Jan-20 00:36:17

I love it, also love other “old lady” names such as Connie, Nancy etc

I had great nana Sadie and Connie 😂

My nana Sadie, was actually a Sarah but everyone used her nickname and called her Sadie.

TerribleCustomerCervix Mon 13-Jan-20 23:14:56

Bigus, your MIL was talking shite.

(I’m from NI with multiple great-aunties called Sadie)

millymae Mon 13-Jan-20 23:05:26

I love Sadie - used to work with someone called this who has been registered as Mercedes.
As to it being a pet’s name, that wouldn’t bother me at all. Lots of people give their pets what I would call a human name nowadays.

BigusBumus Mon 13-Jan-20 22:58:24

I wanted this 18 yrs ago when I was pregnant with DS. I'm pretty sure my MIL who was from Northern Ireland told me it meant slag or whore of something similar there 😕

TerribleCustomerCervix Mon 13-Jan-20 22:47:40

I have a Sadhbh and tried to introduce Sadie as a nickname when she was tiny.

DH was having NONE of it.

So similarly to others, I love it, DH has no taste and vetoed.

RaininSummer Mon 13-Jan-20 22:42:35

Nice. Makes me think of the Beatles track.

PlantPotting Mon 13-Jan-20 22:41:18

I don’t see it as a pets name

I adore the name Sadie- it’s on my list

ButterflyRuns Mon 13-Jan-20 21:09:07

I think it's a bad name but I don't think of a pet

fairynick Mon 13-Jan-20 21:07:47

I love the name Sadie but I do also know a dog with the name!

TatianaLarina Mon 13-Jan-20 21:07:38

I don’t love it but I don’t think it’s a pet’s name.

I don’t see sad I see (hear) Sadism.

OnlyFoolsnMothers Mon 13-Jan-20 21:04:48

Love but we already have one in the family so couldn’t use myself!
