Thoughts please on this girl’s name?

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee Mon 25-Nov-19 17:10:35

Not my cup of tea, sounds too like the Zika virus!!

sleepismysuperpower1 Mon 25-Nov-19 17:10:59

I haven't heard of it before but i think it is gorgeous. would it be pronounced Zee-va or Zi-va?

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber Mon 25-Nov-19 17:11:26

Too much like Zika virus for me sorry

fluffygal Mon 25-Nov-19 17:12:13

I do like a girl's name beginning with Z, my youngests name begins with Z!

StealthPolarBear Mon 25-Nov-19 17:13:47

Yes too simiaor to zika sorry

KindnessCrusader Mon 25-Nov-19 17:13:57

Nice sound but my first thought was 'is that the deadly virus?' (no, as it turns out!)

MisterT373 Mon 25-Nov-19 17:16:13

One of the female characters in NCIS - it is Hebrew for "radiance"

Dyra Mon 25-Nov-19 17:16:44

I'm afraid my first thought was Zika upon reading it too.

Saying it aloud though (Zee-va), it does sound quite nice.

TiceCream Mon 25-Nov-19 17:17:31

It makes me think of the daffodil with the same name. To be fair it’s a very nice daffodil.

CherryValance Mon 25-Nov-19 17:23:43

Pretty Hebrew name. I like it.

MrsNoMopp Mon 25-Nov-19 17:25:12

Unfortunately the virus was my first thought too.

percheron67 Mon 25-Nov-19 17:31:02

Sounds like an oral contraceptive.

Omashu Mon 25-Nov-19 18:42:23

Ziva the Diva

Practicalmagico Mon 25-Nov-19 18:44:27

Interesting and unusual! Better than another Ava or Emily

DLaderBeal Mon 25-Nov-19 18:49:23

It’s “Zee-va”, Hebrew. I love short, strong but pretty names and this is one that’s been on my mind; I used to know a lovely Ziva.

Also like names like Noor, Vashti, Zosia, Tamar, Anouk...

CravingCheese Mon 25-Nov-19 19:11:21

Doesn't it also mean gonorrhea in Hebrew?
but I might be wrong... I just remember watching NCIS with an Israeli roommate.

Marcipex Mon 25-Nov-19 19:20:26

I know a lovely Ziva of about seven. Nice change from the Lila Lola Layla Lyra of her year group.

Ginger1982 Mon 25-Nov-19 20:14:33

Do you watch NCIS by any chance?

Crocky Mon 25-Nov-19 20:29:25

Ziva David. Only time I have heard the name. I like it.

aibutohavethisusername Mon 25-Nov-19 21:18:30

I love Noor and Anouk.

TatianaLarina Mon 25-Nov-19 22:06:00

I like it. Probably prefer Zena but it’s more common.

Also like Viva (pronounced Veeva).

Disfordarkchocolate Mon 25-Nov-19 22:07:14

Makes me think you are an NCIS fan but I do like it.

RolytheRhino Mon 25-Nov-19 22:09:38

Lovely. We had a cat called that, named after the one on NCIS.

OverByYer Mon 25-Nov-19 22:09:46

I’ve never heard of it before, but I actually like it. Even moved that it’s a traditional name.

OverByYer Mon 25-Nov-19 22:10:01

*more so

DramaAlpaca Mon 25-Nov-19 23:10:01

I really like it.

SlightlyBonkersQFA Mon 25-Nov-19 23:11:41

I thought of the zika virus as well.

I like zyla though.

bookmum08 Mon 25-Nov-19 23:23:32

I know it from NCIS. I remember the character saying she wasn't fond of her name because it's a 'grandma' name - ie old fashioned. The Israeli version of being called Doris or Joan perhaps grin
Perfectly nice name.

Shylo Mon 25-Nov-19 23:26:53

I have a colleague with a DD called Ziva and I love it, beautiful strong name .... and it’s never once made me think of Zika!

Omashu Mon 25-Nov-19 23:29:37

You know, Zika would actually make a great name if it wasn’t for the virus!

Redshoeblueshoe Mon 25-Nov-19 23:31:59

NCIS

Bluerussian Mon 25-Nov-19 23:37:14

How about Visa?
No, don't like Ziva particularly but the meaning is nice: “radiance, brilliance, light, God, brightness”.

schafernaker Mon 25-Nov-19 23:53:40

Zosia is my absolute fave! Much better option 😊

MollyHuaCha Tue 26-Nov-19 00:12:40

Zena

runoutofnamechanges Tue 26-Nov-19 00:22:34

How about Zivi, which is an alternative form of the same name? I knew one growing up who was cool, beautiful and clever.

MzPumpkinPie Tue 26-Nov-19 00:30:50

I know a beautiful woman called Shiva.
( she-va), absolutely love her name.
Not sure about Ziva though.
It does sound like a virus or prescription medication to me.

Pieceofpurplesky Tue 26-Nov-19 00:40:00

I love Ziva and the alternative Xiva

dreichwinter Tue 26-Nov-19 01:35:39

I did think of the virus first.
Sorry OP.
Otherwise I don't think it is a bad sounding name.

Willow2017 Tue 26-Nov-19 02:28:02

I love it, and it's meaning.
If I was starting again (by some miracle) it would be on my list.

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook Tue 26-Nov-19 09:56:48

How are people getting the Veee Vaaaa sound mixed up with Zeee Kaaa?

I think it's beautiful and exotic. The NCIS character embodies it's sense of mystery well. Love it.

DLaderBeal Tue 26-Nov-19 10:01:38

Zivi is lovely! Thanks for all the thoughts. I’ll have to look up this NCIS association, good by the sounds of it?

BonBon411 Tue 26-Nov-19 14:45:48

Ziva is gorgeous ... also like Vashti

CaptainCabinets Thu 28-Nov-19 00:50:35

I know of no fewer than three dogs named Ziva. Pretty but it’s a dog’s name to me now!

RolytheRhino Thu 28-Nov-19 07:13:53

I know of no fewer than three dogs named Ziva.

It is very shoutable. "Zeeeeeeeevaaaaaa!"

runoutofnamechanges Thu 28-Nov-19 15:29:54

You could (legitimately) spell it Zivah instead of Ziva so it doesn't "look" like Zika and people don't make the association, particularly as it isn't pronounced to rhyme with Zika. A at the end of a female name in Hebrew can be transliterated as -ah or -a eg Sarah/Sara.

Zivia/Zivya (gazelle) is another alternative (that also has many different ways to transliterate it).

Bananablueberry Thu 28-Nov-19 17:35:36

I also know a dog called Ziva but do think it's a lovely name. Love Anouk

FenellaMaxwell Fri 29-Nov-19 16:05:48

I like Noor and Anouk. I’m afraid I also think Zika.

KittenCuteness Sat 30-Nov-19 13:49:36

I don't like it, sorry OP. (I didn't think Zika, though!)

I like Anouk and Zosia. I had a lovely Polish aunt called Zosia.

AdalindMeisner Sat 30-Nov-19 14:50:12

I like it. There was a character in Ncis called Ziva. She was a real tough character. The name is from Israel I believe.

WeshMaGueule Sat 30-Nov-19 20:57:03

It's slang for a hoodie in French, if it matters.

helpiamstressedbuthey Sat 30-Nov-19 21:21:28

I quite like it actually! It was the name of a detective on NCIS ... used to watch it with my grandad so perhaps that is why I have lovely associations with the name
