If you could choose your surname...

...what would it be?

A bit random I know but sometimes I hear a surname and think 'ooh, that's a good one'!

Mine is pretty comical but definitely could be worse... though if I could choose, I'd go for Cathcart or Brocklebank! Smile

What would you pick?

I love my surname, also love my maiden name.

Gives my son a very beautiful (imo) sounding name so I’m happy 😂

I'd choose something unusual and nice so that there was only one of me!

I'd be happy with "of Brunei"
🤣

I love my surname, but I used to know someone whose surname was Martini and always rather liked that.

You can choose your surname if you want.

I knew rugby players with both of those surnames in the early 00s and now I'm wondering whether @ButterflyOfFreedom did too.

emwithme no sorry, don't know any rugby players with those surnames!
I think there is a footballer called Cathcart, and obviously it's a character in Catch 22.
I saw Brocklebank on the side of a truck once (!) and just thought it sounded cool! 🙂

I knew a Twelvetrees, Alabaster and a Galliano. Also knew a Miss J Bond. But my favourite was an old gravestone I saw a few years ago for a Johnny Flowerbuttons. I'd bloody love to be Mrs Flowerbuttons.

I always liked the idea of being a Mrs Merryweather. I also used to work with someone whose surname was Snowball and wouldn't mind that too.

I used to know a lady with the surname Sweetingham. I thought it was lovely!

I used to work with a Ms Waterfall, and was quite jealous of that.

I know a Brocklebank Smile

When I married DH we just picked a new name. So, you can!

You can choose your surname. If you want to be a Brocklebank, be one!

What a weird thread.

I know you can choose your surname but not many people seem to. I don't know anyone who has.

Sorry you think it's a weird thread - weird enough for you to comment!

You can.

I chose my first, middle and surname.

Report
Staffori · 15/11/2019 18:12

I like Jones. No, seriously. As long as I have a very unusual first name, which I don't. If Stafori was my real name, I'd be happy with Stafori Jones. Unique.

Loved my maiden name as very unusual...to the point anyone who shares the surname is a relative!

If I could choose, it would be Mrs Hardy, wife of Tom Hardy 😋

I had an English teacher with the surname Truelove, she then got married and became Rowbottom. I think they were both brilliant surnames!!!

As a child I used to wish I had the surname Marvell or Merivale. They were the names of characters in a book I loved as a child & sounded so much more romantic to me than my own, quite ugly, surname.

Actually, DH has a great surname. I liked it so much better than my own that I decided to change to his when we got married. I almost certainly wouldn't have done if he'd had a horrible name.

Oooh I like this thread!

I've always loved 'birdy' surnames names: Partridge, Starling, Peacock, Swan, Sparrow etc.

Report
pinkmagic1 · 15/11/2019 18:48

I think I would go with Rainbow.
