Cassandra... Any thoughts please?
( I keep thinking of Cassandra in ‘Only Fools & Horses’😳)

Beautiful classic name, not keen on variations of it or similar names like Cassia (which seems to be getting more popular) but Cassandra isn't over used and it sounds beautiful. It's a name that isn't too "oldy" but still classic, not many of those names about.

It sounds like a good name for a psychic, because of how in Greek mythology Cassandra is a prophetess. Reminds me of a children's TV programme in the 1980s called The Haunting Of Cassandra Palmer; the character called that was the daughter of a medium and dreamed of being a world famous medium when she grew up.

Love it, but I do adore the old Grecian names.

Cassia? Why would anyone call their child after a plant known for its laxative properties. BIt like calling her Exlax.

ElvenMoonwings Sat 16-Nov-19 20:52:21

I think it's a decent, classical name which had not been not too overused. I wouldn't rave about it, but there's nothing I'd think detrimental about it either.

I like it, although prefer Cassidy personally.

daisypond Sat 16-Nov-19 16:55:21

I like it a lot. Ancient Greek. Lot of history and culture and myth behind it.

IckleBear Sat 16-Nov-19 16:43:31

Dislike it but like Cassia

misspiggy19 Wed 13-Nov-19 17:47:47

Dated and not a nice name

florascotia2 Wed 13-Nov-19 17:43:46

OP Here's the story of the famous ancient Cassandra. It's at least 2500 years old. She was a princess and a foreteller of the future. Alas, no-one believed her. Her story shows one form of female power, but is not particularly happy.

NoSauce Wed 13-Nov-19 17:30:38

Cassia is nicer.

BonBon411 Wed 13-Nov-19 16:52:30

I knew a little girl-
Cassandra Suzanne-

I thought it was pretty.

Thetimetravelerswife Wed 13-Nov-19 16:45:09

Not a fan at all, very old fashioned

EleanorShellstrop100 Wed 13-Nov-19 16:33:57

I hate it but I love Cassia

LemonPrism Wed 13-Nov-19 15:52:15

I like it, normal name, Great mythology

LightDrizzle Wed 13-Nov-19 14:46:49

Nice, but too doom-laden for me personally.
I like Cassie for short.

Spied Wed 13-Nov-19 14:45:56

Cassie would be ok as a stand alone name but no to Cassandra.
Sounds dated too. Early 90s.

bornonasunday Wed 13-Nov-19 14:45:52

SiL not chosen final name, but this looks likely one. I didn’t know it was an old old name!

Chocmallows Wed 13-Nov-19 14:43:17

I like it, but prefer it shortened to Cass.

MindyStClaire Wed 13-Nov-19 14:40:43

Sounds fine to me.

It's your niece's name, so I'd suggest you like it.

GrumpyHoonMain Wed 13-Nov-19 14:40:26

I like it but it often gets shortened to Sandra / Cass etc.

hungryhippie Wed 13-Nov-19 14:38:24

I actually like it. It sounds very classy.

MikeUniformMike Wed 13-Nov-19 14:33:43

It's ok. Not my choice but it's an old, old name and I know one who is really nice.
Cass, Cassie, Sandy...

FriedasCarLoad Wed 13-Nov-19 14:32:45

I wouldn’t choose in case no one ever believed her warnings wink

But it’s classic and pretty, and Cassie is a cute NN. And I love that it’s so rarely used without trying hard to be original. So overall, thumbs up smile

MissHenty Wed 13-Nov-19 14:31:10

I like it but Cassie just sounds too like Gassy to me and makes the sound of the name unpleasant to me.

All the Cassandras I know have ended up being called Cassie even if they didn’t want to be
