The name of DC1 sets the tone...

Our daughters name is Matilda, I would love to know what everyone’s thoughts are on girls and boys names that suit this name for the near future. I do think it must be difficult to choose babies names after having your first, as you already have a name that your choice has to work well with! I’d love to hear your suggestions. Thanks!

My brother has a Matilda and James. If James was a girl, he would have been Charlotte

Actually I disagree. I don’t think it matters if they go together or not. Most of their lives will be lived independently of each other.

Sydney (for girl or boy)

I disagree too. Your children will spend the vast majority of their lives living separately from one another. And why do names have to 'match' anyway?

Choose names you love and chances are they'll go just fine!

Whilst I agree siblings will live independent lives I wouldn't want any resentment between my children if I called them wildly different names.
Tallulla-Persephone and Jane for example or Joe and Phoenix as brothers

Agree with PPs that siblings names don’t have to “go”.
I have 5 DC, and didn’t think about whether or their names went or not. They’re individuals, not a matching set.

Matildas always have siblings called Jemima, Tabitha, Cordelia, Atticus, Jasper or Felix.

Ooh well I know a Matilda with three of the most randomly named siblings, no word of a lie: the four kids are Matilda, Baptiste, Pixie and Vladimir! So if this family is anything to go on, Matilda is a name which goes with absolutely any style of name!

LeftieLovegood · 27/10/2019 13:22

Much less excitingly, I also know a Matilda and Abigail, a Matilda, Eva and Archie and a Matilda and Lily-Rose.

I humbly submit that many people choose names for their DC that don't "go" together at all.

Sophie & Jayden.
Meadow and Beatrice.
James and Neon.
Tinkerbell and Rundir.

etc.

Eleanorbellanor · 27/10/2019 14:53

I agree that they don’t need to go together necessarily. Just choose a name you like! Your kids will grow up and live independent and separate lives and have their own families- they don’t need to have matchy names
