Rhys is a fine Welsh name and Mason is a job. Rhys is the only sane choice.

Love Rhys!! I'm not sure how previous posters can say these names are for naughty children, I know several Rhys' and 2 Masons and all are lovely- extremely harsh to label a name naughty IMO

Butterfly005 Mon 21-Oct-19 18:31:06

I prefer Rhys much more

Petrichor11 Mon 21-Oct-19 20:31:00

Rhys but I’m biased as I live in wales and know several, posters outside Wales May view it differently

user1493494961 Mon 21-Oct-19 20:56:58

Have you got a third choice?

ItsWitchingTime Mon 21-Oct-19 21:04:48

I have a Rhys, I'm neither Welsh nor live in Wales and he's not a 'naughty' boy either.

It's a lovely name

Tillygetsit Mon 21-Oct-19 22:44:01

Oh god the 'naughty boy" chestnut again. hmm

Astronica Mon 21-Oct-19 23:10:22

I love Rhys and I'm another who is neither Welsh nor live in Wales. I dislike Mason.

Valkarie Mon 21-Oct-19 23:12:54

Really love Rhys

MrsNoMopp Mon 21-Oct-19 23:13:22

I prefer Mason. Not keen on Rhys.

Aprillygirl Mon 21-Oct-19 23:24:49

Definitely Rhys.

AlliKaneErikson Wed 23-Oct-19 12:53:00

Rhys. I know of plenty of boys outside Wales called Rhys, with this spelling too.

PetraRabbit Wed 23-Oct-19 13:15:50

Rhys without a doubt!

Hippywannabe Wed 23-Oct-19 13:22:02

I have a gorgeous grandson called Mason. He is fab!

MikeUniformMike Wed 23-Oct-19 14:21:30

Rhys if you're Welsh. Otherwise look for another name.

sue51 Wed 23-Oct-19 14:29:25

Rhys is a good name. I'm not keen on surnames used as first names so a no to Mason.

elp30 Wed 23-Oct-19 14:29:55

I have a Rhys for a nephew and Mason for a grandson so I like both names. But I prefer Mason.

PrincessHoneysuckle Wed 23-Oct-19 14:32:07

Mason is my ds name so obviously I love it.Hes not a naughty boy either!

Powderperfume Wed 23-Oct-19 16:38:54

Loving all the post telling you you have to be Welsh to name a kid rhys grin
Didn't realise MN was full of name police.

As someone who IS Welsh I wouldn't ever be offended or upset if someone who isn't Welsh to name their child with a Welsh name. So what?!

Why would any one care?

I'd definitely go with Rhys

daisypond Wed 23-Oct-19 17:21:57

Rhys, by miles. And you don’t have to be Welsh. And don’t spell it Reece or Reese.

MikeUniformMike Wed 23-Oct-19 17:44:15

I said if you are Welsh, because the Welsh name is great but I don't like the Reece pronunciation.

If she had asked Rees or Mason, I'd have said Rees.

I think that it's a bit naff to use a name from a different language or culture.

Shoutymomma Wed 23-Oct-19 17:56:38

Rhys only if Welsh and esp if ginger.
The only Masons I know put me right off.

Frith2013 Wed 23-Oct-19 18:56:58

Mason is someone who carves stone. Or a type of jar.

So I’d go for Rhys.
