Can I use the same name twice?

I have a bit of a predicament...
So with DD1 we found it really hard finding names we really loved until we heard one and absolutely loved it!
We had two names and ended up using them as a first and middle name.
However, the only girls name I really love if we had a second DD is DD1's middle name.
If I have another girl can I give her my DD1's middle name as her first name or is that wrong? Confused
The name is Amara Smile

My in laws did this with my husband and his brothers. They all have a mix of each others middle names/first names. I thought it was a bit quirky but nothing more. Middle names don't often get used either so I'd say go for it!

Personally, I wouldn't!

I think you need to find another. Between sisters it would feel like a handmedown name.

Switch DD1s names around for DD2 and tell them you loved both names so much you wanted them both to have them. Grin

I have two daughters and felt the same, I loved DD1's middle name and would have used it as a first name for DD2 had I known she was coming.
As a younger sister myself I knew that her name might be one of the few things she would have all of her own, it felt unfair to make her share!
So we gave her a name we never even thought of for DD1. It's beautiful and suits perfectly.

My friends dud3 exactly this with their 2 sons. It's fine! Hardly anyone hears the middle name after the birth announcement anyway.

You can, but what a shame! There are hundreds of thousands of girls’ names out there; surely you can find more than two you like!

How about....

I thought it was weird when the royals did it but maybe it’ll be all the rage now!

The only time people know your middle name is when you go to airports IME. My DP doesn't know mine (I checked). I would do it no question.

Every girl in our extended family has the same middle name and being in the American south we use both names! So Daisy Lee and Bertha Lee both have daughters Mary Lee and her sister Margaret Lee have cousins Sonia Lee and Dorothy Lee for example. It tells us immediately what generation they are and which branch of the family. We love it!

How about Amaia or Amelia instead of Amara?

@GeorgiaGirl52 I'm confused, how do you tell which generation they are when they all have the same middle name?

Yes, i would do it.

Her name is Grace Amara and we absolutely love it.
A few of her personalised blankets and items have Grace Amara on them Blush
We loved Amara Grace too but my partner preferred Grace Amara.
We love unique middle names but classic/traditional first names

I think it would be fine to use it as a middle name again. Some families do that, have the same middle name for all kids. It really is all or none though (gender permitting) - you can't have two with the same middle name and a third with a different one.

However, not fine to use as a first name for a second child once the first child already has it as a middle name. DD2 needs her own name, not a recycled sister's name.

Nope. No.

Nothing will say “second born” like bearing the firstborn’s middle name.

There are so many lovely names out there. Find another one!

A family I am close to has four boys, with a massive gap between the two eldest and two youngest. Using girls names, if the first is Grace Amara, the third is Amara Maia, and if the second is Sarah Jane the fourth is Daisy Sarah.
I've often thought they really needed the fourth child else the eldest would have a namesake and the second wouldn't.
Think on what you will do if you have a third girl. If you call her something Grace then poor Grace Amara won't have a name to herself!
Although I understand all George Foreman's kids had the same name!

I did do this, but my Eldest DD was Stillborn and the name we re-used was/is my middle name ...
