Start using Mumsnet PremiumWant a short but pretty girls name
(128 Posts)My Dd is due in 6 weeks and DH and I cannot settle on a name for her.
I want something that isn’t top 10 and ideally is a one or two syllable name as we have quite a long surname.
Any ideas?
Have liked but discounted

Mae
Eve
Alice
All too popular I think.
I grew up with a top 10 name. One of 2-3 in each primary class and one of 6 in secondary school year group. I’m Brno looking for “yoonique” just not quite so popular as my name was.

Rose

My gorgeous baby girl is called Iris and she, like her name, is very short and pretty
I love short and pretty names but must have a bit of strength to them too. Others I love are...
Erin

Sylvie.
Good luck choosing. Some lovely suggestions here.

I’m the same as you @Gustavo1 - I have top 10 name always 1 of 3 in my class
What I would say is that the top 10 nowadays is very different to the top 10 when we were at school. Back then 1 in 4 babies was given a top 10 name. Now it’s 1 in 8/9. So even with “Olivia” being the top girls’ name, there isn’t one olivia at any of my sons baby groups or nursery! I’ve been on a mission for the last year to try and find an Olivia!! Not that I’m suggesting you pick a top 10 name- I avoided the top 10 with my DC too. But just something to put your mind at rest a bit x

Five pages and loads of gorgeous suggestions but unless by Ive skipped it, I don’t think anyone has mentioned just Ann (Anne). The ultimate in short and pretty I would think!
If you’re willing to venture into two syllables, Mary also springs to mind.

I work wirh children and had the same feeling of not wanting a popular name so picked a name I'd never had in a class before. We went with Iris, everyone who hears it loves it and I'm still yet to have an Iris in my class.
Ellen, bit more unusual than Ella
Odette
Rosa
Sylvie
