What are your thoughts on the name Liam? Not short for William, just Liam.

I like it! It's a good, strong name especially if you have Irish heritage. But doesn't matter if you don't x

Beautiful name.. would have used it for DS2 but a cousin and friend got in just before me.

For me it’s clunky - not sure why but if you like it go for it.

Makes me think of Gallagher. Not a good connotation.

I like the sound of it. However I think it’s seen as a naughty boy name

I don't like it.

I know a baby Liam. It’s a nice enough name, but it does seem a little bit dated - very 90s I think. There were a lot of them around when I was little.

I'm a teacher and don't associate Liam as a naughty boy name! I won't tell you the ones I do in case I offend anybody 😂

I love it, it's a beautiful Irish name & not short for William, it's a name in its own right. My Liam was born about a year before Oasis arrived on the scene. I wasn't pleased at all when it started to get popular because of that idiot Gallagher. Mine is half Irish so we picked it to reflect his heritage. It really pisses me off that some people consider it a 'naughty boy name' whatever the fuck that is Anyway, I love it.

Bloody hell this is why teachers get a bad name... Naughty names ffs

Having been a teacher for a long time there is no such thing as 'naughty names' it's just snobby people passing judgment on kids which they shouldn't do especially if they are educators

That’s not what my teacher relative says. There are definitely children with certain names that are shall we say “spirited”.

I am a teacher so I should know. Sorry but your relative needs to stop being a snob.

The thing is kids can be naughty regardless of their name BUT snobbery means kids without 'classic' names get judged unfairly and are treated worse.
If a teacher genuinely believes there are naughty kids names then those poor kids are already being judged!

Relative isn’t a snob. She’s just had many kids with the same name over the past 10 years that many of them have been disruptive and “naughty”.

The only two Liams I know have been naughty, which is funny seeing what other people have said. I do like the name, but do think it's a little bit old - popular maybe 15yrs ago. But it's a good, solid name, so if you like it, you should absolutely go for it.

It appears that some teachers do make assumptions based on names:
