Baby names

Ansel or Adler?

My baby boy is actually already here and three days old and I still haven't decided on which to go with as I simply love them both. 😭

I can't even say I have a tiny preference towards one of them over the other. Help me out, please?

Are you German?

Report

They are both very Teutonic names.

I live Ansel! After Ansel Adams.

They’re surnames, aren’t they?

What about Anselm?

Ansel is a brilliant name!
Ansel Adams! Greatest photographer ever.

Adler means eagle in German and is very much a surname. It’s way too strong and a bit 1933. Ya get me tho. Wink

Ansel is gorgeous and I’d have named another son Ansel. But that won’t be happening. We’re not having any more kids.

Anselm is better Ansel bit too close to Anusel. Adler is The Woman

Ansel looks like Hansel (from the story Hansel and Gretel) but with a missing 'H' to me! I prefer Anselm.

Congratulations. Ansel is my favourite.

@FamilyOfAliens No, they’re not.

Ansel reminds me of the Ansell condom brand and Adler sounds too much like ‘addled’ to me.

I have to admit that as soon as I saw the name I thought of the condom brand sorry.

Ansel is a great name! Strong classic and memorable.

It has nothing to do with Hänsel which is a diminutive of Hans.

Adler is very unusual and is an eagle in German.

@FartnissEverbeans

Oh ok, they sound like surnames to me, but it seems from this thread that they are used as forenames in Germany.

I'm going against the grain and saying Adler. Much prefer it

Adler is definitely NOT a first name in Germany. It means eagle. It's more likely a surname but not a common one.

Report
MikeUniformMike · 13/06/2019 08:25

I prefer Adler but I don't really like either of them.

Ansel. Congratulations Flowers. I’ve only seen Adler as a surname.

If I were forced to choose... Ansel, but I dislike both.

He'd end up with the NN "Ann" though, surely?
