I'm not pregnant, but DH and I have been talking about children more recently. DH asked if they could suggest a boy's name, and I said sure.

PARSONS. The name was fucking PARSONS.

It's not even a family surname. I despair! Why? I thought we would have similar taste or at least DH would have SOME taste

What are the worst names your DH/DP/other family members or friends have suggested to you?

My dd from a previous marriage has an unusual name. When expecting dd with my husband I explained I’d like one with a similar vein so they sounded like sisters and went together. After thinking for ages he came up with Sophie, Olivia and Ava. All nice names in their own right but it would of be like having a Spartacus and Harry. He just couldn’t understand why they didn’t go 🙈

My ex suggested Belinda as a possible name for both DC1 & DC2. Thankfully they were both boys!

My DM was adamant I should call one of my DCs James. Nothing wrong with the name, just not my thing. Didn’t stop her being insistent about it each time though!

Not my partner, but my Dad was very keen on Bill or Reg as boys names back when he and my Mum were TTC in the late 70s/early 80s. Thankfully they had all girls.

DH suggested some names that are nice enough - but a bit out dated and more common amongst girls born in the 70s and 80s. (I suspected that they were ex’s or girls he had a thing for once, although he assured me they weren’t!)

Jennifer
Kimberley
Michelle
Stephanie

My DF wanted me to include an old family name as one of DS's names. The name is so unusual I can't tell you it, but it's astonishingly hideous. DF was properly miffed when I put my foot down.

I had an ex who wanted to call a boy Sephiroth. Think it's from a computer game? Thankfully we never had kids....

Cuthbert. Genuinely! From an older family member - I got a long missive on the subject. Notably, he has more than one son, none of whom have been called Cuthbert (even as a middle name). I'm informed I'm not the only family member to receive a letter on the subject. DD, being female, meant I didn't have to discuss why I hadn't chosen it. Other family members, having sons, did have some uncomfortable conversations...

My mum was horrified when I told her the name I was considering for ds. She said I couldn’t possibly use it as it was a dog’s name! Then suggested the name max - which was the name of her dog Hmm

My mum suggested the ‘unusual’ (quote from her) name of Olivia.. she works in a school ffs and somehow hadn’t noticed it’s quite literally one of the least unusual girls names in the UK

When my husband had his first daughter with his ex wife (38 years ago to be precise), he wanted to call her 'Whanita'. (not sure on correct spelling). Thank goodness his wife totally vetoed it!! Even now, he says he still loves the name.

Someone I know once pointed at my large bump and told me if it was a girl to call her Shaynee Richie, after Shayne Richie.

She said she doubt she'd have anymore so I could use it. She said the extra e made it feminine and special.

DH said no.

For DC2, my MIL insisted suggested if it was a girl we were to call her Myfanwy.

We are Welsh, but I just can't get past it sounding like My Fanny Grin

Luckily it was a boy!
