Help: DISO tips for making a final name decision when *totally* indecisive

I'm having a nightmare. Got a lovely newborn boy (well he's almost two weeks now) and just can't seem to settle on a name for him.

Got a shortlist (which keeps changing) and which includes:

Callum
Joseph
Cameron
Owen
Jamie

But just can't seem to decide which one he suits / which one to go with.

has anyone been in a similar position? Got any tips for how you make your mind up?

In fog of sleep deprivation can't imagine ever making our minds up!!

Pick a name out a hat. If either of you are disappointed then it's not the one!

Awwwww 6 days old.
I bet hes almost as cute as my Baby Spider. Grin
Would you mind putting a picture of him so we can see what name he looks like, or Someone might suggest a name you haven't thought of.

Has he got any brothers or sisters?

We share the same taste in names @ruthietoothie

What are his siblings called?

Are they old enough to help choose?

My order of preference is;

Jamie
Cameron
Callum
Joseph
Owen

Others I like are Matthew and Joshua

You obviously like them all. Get everyone important- parents, siblings, grandparents etc to pick one and write it down. Most votes win. If its a draw repeat it with only the two names as options.

Great tips @bendingspoons & @sidandbump - starting to get cross with myself at not being able to make a decision,

He does have siblings @mrslettuce & @callmerachel - they are Katie, Liam and Nina, and his surname will be Bell

I like Joseph best but think Owen goes best with the sibling names.

Joseph.

Congratulations Smile

Owen, by loads.

Liam and Callum are too similar, so you can take that off the list Smile

Jamie "fits" with the others, are they are all diminutives. It's a lovely name (and whn you have another you have to give them a name beginning with M so you can have an alphabetical "flush" going J-K-L-M-N Grin )

Oh hang on, scrap that! You can't call him Jamie Bell, sorry (famous actor)

Report
AliCanTea · 06/12/2018 21:26

Yes strike off Jamie sadly, due to the actor. Might Callum get shortened to Cal do you think? Cal Bell sounds like cowbell when said aloud. And Cam Bell like a cam belt...? Maybe clutching at straws to help here. Owen and Joseph are lovely, and sound great with the surname too.

We practised yelling up our stairs things like 'xxx hurry up dinner's ready', come on 'xxx get your shoes on'! Sounds mad but I think it helped. Now said DC is 3 and I say those things a lot! We also wrote our favourite names on separate post it notes on their bedroom door and walking past them each time helped! Good luck and enjoy your gorgeous newborn, precious days Xxx

I like all the names on your list but would rule out, as others have said, Jamie because of the actor & Callum because it's similar to Liam.

I think I'd pick Owen. It's another short, neat name & I think it goes really well.

Owen goes well

Joseph is lovely and flows beautifully with your other names

Owen if he has hair.

Joseph if he’s bald.

Sorted.

I think Owen Or Cameron are the nicest on your list.
Dont like Joe as shortening for Joseph
Callum - is ok, but dont like 'Cal' and is similar to Liam.

Jacob or Jake as an alternative suggestion.

Here he is! I just can't decide. Might try calling him Owen today and see how we get on as @barleyreed suggests.

sweet little guy! Personally I think Jamie is lovely - I take on board the fact he'd share a name with an actor, but it's not like your surname is Pitt and you've decided to call him Brad. I reckon it's a name that's still totally OK to use.

Any of your options are great and fit well with the siblings. I think trying a new name out on him every day and seeing which sticks is probably a good approach - it worked on my sister.

Aww he's beautiful congratulations!

All lovely names, you have very similar taste to me. They all actually go really nicely with siblings names . I think my favourite is Cameron
