I have such a name crush on the name Primrose that it’s our current front runner. Is it my hormones? I’m smitten but would value some honest opinions x

It's very twee on one hand, and on the other the name of Dr Harold Shipman's wife. Sorry, but I think that is what will occur to people.

I would never have made that connection.
I think hunger games is more likely- I think her nn was Prim.

I would not have known it was the name of Dr Shipman's wife. That's pretty.... specialist knowledge. However I don't think it would put me off, any more than I'd be put off Rose. You could shorten it easily to Rose in fact, if you wanted a nickname. It wouldn't be my choice of name but it's different and pretty.

Apologies for introducing Dr Shipman, but the name sounds quaint to me, "Primrose Tea Rooms". Have you considered, Rosa, Rosemary, Rosina, Rosie, Rosalind?

I think that is what will occur to people.

It really, really isn’t. My first thought was of Primula spreadable cheese, and I thought that that was niche.

We have a primrose in our family.
She is far from twee.
It's a lovely name

So sorry but the first thing I thought of was also Harold shipmans wife, I wouldn't let that put me off though.

It was our front runner for a girl. Wouldn’t suit DS though Grin

Aww.

(I would never have made the Shipman connection.)

Poster who thinks it's too much like Shipman, suggests Rosemary instead Grin

I do like the name Rosemary btw.

I'm afraid I made that connection immediately.

It's a bit sickly.

I would never have associated the name with anything negative . I like it.

Harold Shipman here too. And I tihnk it's pretty ghastly.

I love it but then I do like flowery names. Blossom is locely too if you need an alternative.

I love it!

I don't like it because it starts with 'prim' which isn't an attractive trait. It reminds me of elderly maiden aunts clutching their pearls. And yes, the Shipman reference occurred to me too.

The Rose bit is nice.

I think it's lovely I wouldn't like it shortened to any sort of Nick name though,

Report
RavenWings · 05/12/2018 00:31

It's horrendous. Twee, simpering, weak and infantile.

Piebeansandchips · 05/12/2018 00:41

I like it - wasn't it on The Darling Buds of May? Loved that series

Report
Pottytoes · 05/12/2018 05:54

Didn't make the Shipman connection.
Hope your surname is not Hill though!

Report
Peachbubble · 05/12/2018 06:37

I thought of Darling Buds of May. It's nice, but I think it would get shortened to Rose/Rosie most of the time - are you OK with that?

Awful sorry. Rose on its own is lovely.

Had no idea about the Shipman thing.

Reminds me mainly of the Hunger Games - no bad thing, she's a great character!
