I have such a name crush on the name Primrose that it’s our current front runner. Is it my hormones? I’m smitten but would value some honest opinions x

Had no idea about the Shipman thing.

Reminds me mainly of the Hunger Games - no bad thing, she's a great character!

Phebes Wed 05-Dec-18 07:48:09

I knew about Shipman’s wife and I do find it a bit twee... but I still love it!

GrannyHaddock Wed 05-Dec-18 09:20:24

Katherina, if you are referencing Mrs Fred West, she was widely known as Rose, which is exactly why I did not include it.
I quite agree with PP about the first syllable, Prim.

I spent 6 months of year 1 in a primary school in London almost 40 years ago, and my best friend there was called Primrose. She had short, dark hair, could run really fast, and liked Jemima from Playschool. She was great and I think it's a lovely name.

yumscrumfatbum Wed 05-Dec-18 09:27:18

I love it!

Primrose is a beautiful perrenial and could contribute substantially to saving our ecosystem - helping moths and other insects, especially nocturnal ones.
Sounds very prim but lovely, like a kind sister.

Choccywoccyhooha Wed 05-Dec-18 09:35:46

It's a lovely name. You should definitely go for it.
No association with Shipman occured to me at all.

RedDwarves Wed 05-Dec-18 10:04:21

Love Rose, hate Primrose.

Primrose is so stuffy. "Prim" is awful. It's a bit like Petunia vs Lily in Harry Potter. One is a classic; the other a caricature.

Flamingosnbears Wed 05-Dec-18 10:17:16

I think it's refreshing actually there are loads of Rose's around good to go for a lovely distinguished name in my opinion

And no not H. Shipman at all nobody owns a name.

GrannyHaddock Wed 05-Dec-18 11:03:50

Nobody owns a name, but names resonate, otherwise why the fuss about baby Adolf recently? For some of us, perhaps we are slightly older, Primrose resonates in a particular way.

ernjas Wed 05-Dec-18 11:09:37

Not keen, sorry!

Astronica Wed 05-Dec-18 11:13:26

I think it's really appealing and would love to meet a little one!

DidntKnowThat Wed 05-Dec-18 11:28:58

Poster who thinks it's too much like Shipman, suggests Rosemary instead

Hilarious.

GrannyHaddock Wed 05-Dec-18 11:54:42

There are many more Rosemarys around than Primroses, they are not comparable at all.

TheDustbunny Wed 05-Dec-18 11:57:45

Rose is lovely but Primrose is awful. It's much too twee, and yes I thought of Shipman's wife also.

A580Hojas Wed 05-Dec-18 12:07:09

Absolutely beautiful name!

BelindasRedPlasticHandcuffs Wed 05-Dec-18 12:11:58

I went straight to the Hunger Games (Katniss' sister) and I suspect a lot of younger people will make that association.

It's a combination of stuffy (probably because it has the word 'prim' in it) and being a bit twee that just doesn't make a great name. Sorry!

Wolfiefan Wed 05-Dec-18 12:21:44

Prim from Hunger Games.
Prim and proper.
Don’t like it.

SnowyPaws5 Wed 05-Dec-18 12:36:53

I love it!

Littlestar3432 Wed 05-Dec-18 12:38:24

Thank you all for your opinions. Lots for us to consider. I still ❤️It though x

TheRealMummyPig Wed 05-Dec-18 12:43:27

I love it - it's my daughter's middle name. It's much more interesting than boring old Rose. It means first flower of spring (from memory).

SmiledWithTheRisingSun Wed 05-Dec-18 12:45:07

It's nice!
I also like Marigold - Goldie for short smile

Joinourclub Wed 05-Dec-18 12:54:17

I think it’s cute. And also think it’s a bit odd that it makes anyone think of Shipmans wife.

SomethingAboutNothing Wed 05-Dec-18 12:58:21

I like it, it's pretty and not often used.

It made me think of the hunger games, I certainly didn't know the name of Harold Shipmans wife hmm

TheDustbunny Wed 05-Dec-18 13:41:13

It isn't that odd. The Shipman murders was a huge story when it was uncovered and Primrose is a an unusual name. I've never known one so like quite a few people on here she's the first Primrose who comes to mind.
