Linked names by theme. What do you think?

Just curiosity really. My DC both begin with e.
I went to school with kids who began with v, Vincent and his triplet sisters verity, Valerie and veronica.
A friend has children with gem themes. Girls are ruby and pearl, boys are Lennox and topaz.
Also a woman who used to babysit my neighbours kids a few years ago was called storm, and she called her daughter kat and son rhyno!

I'm due at the end of this year and my chosen name is the same length and ends in the same letter/sound as my first born. It definitely wasn't intentional, but we just absolutely love both names! I've kept trying to find something less "matchy" but we can't seem to agree on anything else.

DH, his dad and his brother all have names beginning with the same letter. DH and BIL both hate it and are passionately against the next generation having the same. I think its party the annoyance of not knowing who mail is for but also an identity / individuality thing. Seeing their reactions, I'd shy away from any overt theme.

Interested in this as i called my daughter Summer- already sick of the jokes about having a future Winter. I do wonder though if I’ve pigeon holed myself into duo names , eg. Colours etc

Haha tbff my bro dad grandad and great grandad all have James in their name somewhere!
Also I agree with name endings. I know an Amelia, Sophia, Olivia all sisters.
And I once knew a sanjeeta, her sisters all rhymed - rhea, tia, maleeha, leiah, aliyah.
Plus I just thought my mums friend and her daughter shares the same name!

Names starring with the same letter is completely different from having theme.

A very obvious theme is tacky.

Names starting with the same letter is fine when it's two and doesn't look like the names were only chosen to match, e.g. spelling Chloe Khloe.

Names ending with the same sound is fine (Annie and Chloe), the whole name rhyming is strange (Chloe and Zoe).

I think a theme is pretty naff, tbh. Especially if you end up calling a boy Topaz, just to fit the theme.

But two children whose names begin with the same letter is not a theme. Three, maybe. Four, yes.

I second that it's a bit naff and also once you start it you're kind of buggered unless you think I'd like 8 names that you love in advance... I thought of a name I loved for my second DC but it would be creating a sort of theme with my first DC's name. This put me off as I thought, I don't know if I will settle with 2 children, maybe I'll have 3, maybe even 4! So DC 1&2 would have names in a theme, and then poor DC 3 would either feel left out by not being a part of the theme, or I'd have to frantically come up with another theme name which might not be great. I imagine that's what happened with PP's friend who ended up called a son Topaz

Out of curiosity, would any of you find it naff to have all of your children named after something in nature - say, something like Lilly, Willow, Barley and River? (I haven't done this, but I'm curious about people's opinions!)

I knew a family with very nice, normal names: Richard, Michael, Victoria, Nicola. Shortened to: Ricky, Micky, Vicky, Nicky. Bit tacky for my taste!

I'm also not a fan of having all names starting with the same letter. Or children given the same first name as their parent (seems like a big ego trip to me!). But then again, it's no business of mine. ;-)

I really, really hate the names beginning with the same letter.
It was bad enough that my mum and brother did, but having sat 3 boys all being Mr J Smith is just nuts.
I also think it is a bit suffocating.

The theme is naff if done like some of yoru examples, but I think most family names follow a pattern, eg traditional names; Biblical names; old lady names; eeuuneek names etc.

But some similarity eg ending in last letter? so what

and we have several family names that have been used through several generations, that is a theme I suppose too. (not father and son with same name though)

My children have names that start with the same letter, but they sound nothing alike.
I do know a family with all quite normal names and then just one quite different,
Think Bob, Sue, Lisa, Steven, Chris, Dave and Valentina.
Not used real names btw. And it's not the last child with the swanky name.

I know a pair of sisters named Poppy and Heather, and another named Ruby and Jasmine. I think they go well together. But more than two might get a bit overkill.

I know of an Elise and Eloise and I think it shows a lack of imagination.

To be fair, Rhyno does show imagination!

Change - I don't see either of those as linked funnily enough. I suppose technically Poppy and Heather are both plants, but to me both of those name pairs just suggests they like that style name, not a deliberate link, to me they are more like using Thomas and James. (similar style)

I feel like it depends on the theme . I don't mind same initials, but maybe limited to 2 kids ! If you had 5 kids and gave them all J names that'd be a bit much. I knew someone who had all girls and named them Hope, Faith, Joy, Grace . Also know someone who has 3 kids all named after places and it's not my thing really, although they have grown on me, but when I first heard the second two kids names I was like eeeesh no lol.

My two don't have a theme, just two names I loved (and still do)!

I know sisters with matching first and middle initials. Post must be a nightmare in their house!

I think it's odd if you give children wildly different styles of name (say, Tarquin and Trevor) but also odd if they are really matchy.

Not a fan of themes tbh as it needlessly limits your choice of lovely names. A girl I went to school with has 4 kids all beginning with C and I think it's a bit naf tbh plus it may be confusing as they have the same initials x
