Opinions on the name Rafferty please?

Hey, I would be grateful for opinions on the name Rafferty for a boy, please. My husband and I are having a massive difference of opinion on this one - I think it's 'cool' but he thinks it's 'posh' and we cannot see where the other is coming from at all! Any thoughts on who is right?

Thank you!

It's a tiny bit "try-hard" for my liking. Sorry

It would make me constantly sing Baker Street, but probably quite cool.

What makes it 'posh'? Did he want a 'common' name? Personally I love it.

I'm not keen on the name at all - however I'd say it's more 'cool' than 'posh'!!

I knew a lovely dog called Rafferty.

Hmmm I like it but would agree with your husband that it is a posh name... and a bit try hard as a PP said. Sorry!

It’s far from posh...

No need to apologise for any negative comments about it, all honest opinions welcome! I suppose it is a bit try hard, but I like a bit of a 'different' name, but not too batshit crazy, if you know what I mean?!

MitchDash, ha, I know, I have no idea why he thinks it's posh and don't think he wants a common name (I hope!), but just doesn't want the kid to get bullied for having a posh name! He cannot even say the name without adopting this ridiculously posh voice and sounding like the queen!

I like it. Raff/Raffy/Rafe all good nicknames too.

I personally really like it as well, and agree with other poster
using Rafe as nick name.
You will always come across people that disagree, but at
the end of the day it only matters that you and OH are in
agreeance. If OH is not too keen, then maybe have a few
other names as contenders, just in case.
Good luck!

I don't think he'd be bullied for it, but it does sound very posh to me.

Not posh but a bit 'try hard' and trying harder to be cool.

Penguinsnpandas · 13/09/2018 20:25

I don't like it but would see it as trendy rather than posh.

Love it but I’m a fan of surname names: Cooper, Quinn, Spencer etc

Rafferty is an Irish surname. Its like calling your child Mackenzie. Definitely not posh.

Report
MikeUniformMike · 13/09/2018 21:24

It's neither cool nor posh. It's a bit naff. Great surname though.

Report
popsanddolls · 13/09/2018 21:28

It's not for me. But it's your baby and if you love it then go for it. Although Raff for short sounds cute. People gave me negative comments when I called my baby Dolly but it was my choice.

Kids don't get bullied for having a 'posh' name anymore than those with a 'chav/common' name. Kids are pretty accepting and open minded.

The only names I've every heard teased are William with Willy and silly things like Artie Fartie etc.

Go for Rafferty if you both like it!
