Beau or Aidan

Thought I had settled on Beau and do love it for my baby boy but just unsure how well it transitions into adulthood? Have always loved this name but now having doubts.
Aidan has come to mind. I feel it may suit my little boy better when he is a teen/adult.
Any opinions very welcome. Thanks xGrin

I think Aiden would age better

I dont think Beau works after the age of 8 for a boy personally

Yeah I don't like Beau at all. Cute nickname for a little one I guess but not a proper name imo.
Aiden is lovely , and will suit all ages

Definitely Aidan - Beau just makes me think of Regency rakes!

Reeeeeally not a fan of Beau. Aidan is 100 times better.

I don’t like Aidan at all. I realise everyone will have different connotations attached to a name but the only Aidan’s in my secondary school were absolute screbends.

I like Beau.

Aidan. It's a proper man's name. Beau is cute but just that - cute and a bit toddlerish.

How would you pronounce Beau? I thought it was only the "Bow" pronunciation but I met one who pronounced it "Be-ewww" as in the start of the word beautiful.

Always thought Beau for a boy was a bit flowery / girly. Know a girl who spells it this way too rather than Bo.

Aidan is nicer and know of couple of wonderful lads called Aidan.

I know an adult Beau and he is a lovely guy. Very cool and quirky too.

Aidan.

Beau is a cute nickname (and you can call him this as a baby!)

Beau is a pets name imo. He might grow up to be ugly.

Definitely Aidan. Unless you're giving birth to a kitten or puppy, then Beau Grin

Thanks so much for all of your replies. Pronounced bo, not beeww as in beautiful. Thing is my little boy is already 10 weeks and has been known as beau since birth but have been having doubts. Did not want to mention this in opening post incase it influenced opinions Grin
I think the thing is I love the name Beau but I'm just worried that he won't when he gets to his teens Confused I feel like I need to change the name sooner rather than later if I'm going to.
I'm also worried that if I change it I will regret it as I have liked the name for so long Confused

Don't change it! Beau is so much nicer! People saying it wont 'suit' an adult are forgetting names go in and out of fashion. He wont be the only adult Beau by a long way-it will be normal.

Sounds like you’ve already decided!

What about a more ‘normal’ middle name in case he doesn’t like it as he gets older?

Report
trium · 10/08/2018 15:42

Thank you for the replies. His middle name is William. We chose this as felt that it flowed nicely but also because it's a classic that he could use when he is older should he wish to.

Aidan is lovely. Beau sounds ridiculous for a grown man/pensioner imo

Really don't like Aidan- I know a baby Beau and a grown up Beau. Its a lovely name even for an adult, really love it

HeyDolly · 10/08/2018 16:03

I prefer Aidan but if you love Beau and that’s what he’s already called, I’d stick with that. If he hates it as a teenager he can always decide to be called by his middle name which sounds more ‘grown up’

Aidan.

Beau is a silly name IMO.
