We decided to collate all the advice on www.mumsnet.com/baby-names in a single video (within reason anyway, otherwise it would have been 20 minutes long!)

Might be worth five minutes of your time if you're struggling...

Hi I’m new to mumsnet do not sure if this is starting a thread or not - hopefully I’ve done it right. We are struggling on a middle name for our little girl. My partner only likes traditional names really so we’re finding it hard to agree. The options we have are:
Rosie Louise (not sure as common)
Rosie Elise (just one we both said was ‘ok’)
Rosie Emma (I’m aware this doesn’t flow, however Emma is my middle name, and our son has my partners middle name so thought that might be cute)

Which do you prefer? Other suggestions welcome! The last name is one syllable and begins with H. Thanks

I like Rosie Louise and Rosie Elise equally. Rosie Emma doesn't work as well imo, sorry. However if you wanted to use Emma I really like Emma Rose as a name, and just always call her Rosie (have a friend who goes by a nickname version of her middle name, ever since she was born so not that odd an idea to me!)

Have you considered one syllable middle names? Rosie May, Rosie Bea..?

Thanks for the reply - I feel the same about Rosie Emma not working as well, was just thinking it’d be cute to pass my middle name down. Thanks for the idea but think we’d prefer Rosie even on the birth certificate even though it was a lovely suggestion and Emma Rose does sound lovely. I think short middle names do actually sound great with Rosie now you’ve mentioned it. I know someone called Rosie May so that is out of the question, I’m not too keen on Bea but I am liking the shorter middle names!

Rosie Louise is lovely. Louise was a very popular middle name in the 80s and early 90s, you don't hear of it much nowadays.

I think Rosie Emma is fine. It's not a typical middle name (Rose, Grace, Louise, Ann, Jane, May) but it doesn't jar.

I don't like Rosie Louise, but like Rosie Elise.

Rosie Emma isn't doing it for me. Rosanna Emma or Rosalie Emma flow better to my ear and then she can still be named Rosie. Rosie Emma isn't dreadful at all, just a bit clunky.

Is it just me who doesn't like all the "s/z" sounds in both Rosie Louise and Rosie Elise?

Rosie Emma is lovely, and I think it would be fab to use your middle name, especially as your son has his dad's!

No, I'm with you on that one. But I think Rosie Elise sounds a bit better than Rosie Louise.
