Baby names

Alexander and Annabelle

I like more traditional names and need it to begin with A

What are your thoughts on Alexander for a boy and Annabelle for a girl ?

I have no idea what is in vogue nowadays and I wouldn’t want to choose a name that is very popular at the time as don’t want loads of kids in the same class with that name

Both lovely classic names but I think they’re both relatively popular, Alexander especially which I think is the 8th most popular name for boys. Annabelle less so, but it’s still in the top 100. Personally I know 2 young Alexander’s and 1 Annabelle. If having another in their nursery class would be a problem for you then you might want to look at the top 100 baby names and go for something that isn’t on there. But these days even that isn’t a guarantee!

Thanks for the insight
I’m not set against anyone having the same name - just hoping not five in each class type of scenario

I love both names (in fact, if you ever end up having one of each sex, they go so well together!) they are popular names; last year in the preschool I work at there were three Annabelles, but if that doesn't bother you then great choices! Smile

Gorgeous choices...but I am totally biased as I have an Alexander and an Annabel Smile

We have only ever met one other Alexander to date and no Annabel's yet...

We often get told how lovely their names are.

Not a fan of either to be honest. Too long and fussy for me.

This will be my last child
My other three have two syllable names so yes I agree these are longer

Two of my kids begin with a J and one begins with an A - hence my choice for another A name to balance it out 😂

I prefer just Alex and Anna - and the 2 syllable names would match your other DC. ....

I love Annabel but dislike the Annabelle spelling.

@LoveInTokyo
I never considered there are different spellings
That’s something to think about

Also prefer Annabel spelling. Both gorgeous names. I know one Annabel and 3 Alexanders (2 of whom are usually Alex).

I have an Alexander which we have always shortened to Alex. There is another Alex in his year but it’s a girl. It is a fairly popular name but not overly so. Love Annabel/Annabelle too x

Fidgety, I think Annabel is the more usual spelling. I know three or four Annabels and only one Annabelle.

To me, Annabel is like a beautiful, classy wedding dress, whereas Annabelle is a bit of a meringue. (Sorry, I’ve got wedding dresses on the brain!)
