What's your opinion on the name Alexandria Sheila? Is it a bit of a mouthful, it would be followed by a two syllable surname starting with B

Is Sheila a family name? I don’t want to offend you if it is, but it’s not a name I like at all so really hard to judge the flow of the name.
Of course, if it has sentimental meaning, go for it.

Don't like Sheila and it doesn't really flow so well with Alexandria imo!

Yes it's a family name on both sides of my family, no offence taken I know it's a old fashioned name. Other option is Anne but not sure I like that combo either.

Any suggestions of names that do flow? Thinking short but nothing lily/mae/rose

To me Alexandria Sheila isn't jarring and sounds fine Smile

Personally, names should be special because they have meaning for you (without being a complete nightmare for their recipient, obviously). I'd go for it if I were you.

If you like those two names I think even switching it to Sheila Alexandria, or using Alexandra instead makes it flow more.

Shea, meaning admirable

It’s the vowel sounds - the EE-AH EE-AH is quite grating. Can you put another middle name in between? Or maybe Alexa or ALexandra?

I think AlexandRA Sheila flows better. It's the "ia" that make it a mouthful.

If Sheila is a family name you want to use, I'd go ahead. If you want alternatives though:

Alexandria Claire
Alexandria Faye
Alexandria Wren
Alexandria Joy

Why not Alexandra - otherwise she will spend her life correcting people and having written incorrectly.

Much prefer Alexandra Anne to Sheila - the latter highly dated and Aus slang for woman.

I'd keep them but put Anne in the middle to break up the similar vowel sounds- Alexandria Anne Sheila.

Spam88 · 22/03/2018 10:58

I agree that Alexandra is less of a mouthful.

Technically Alexandra is the name Alexandria is the place.

BevBrook · 22/03/2018 11:31

I also think Alexandra Sheila works better and is less of a mouthful, you lose the extra syllable.

Sheila came from Cecilia meaning blind one so you could use Cecilia or I think Alexandria Cecily is sweet.

I like the name but it's very likely she'll be called Alex or lex. As long as your ok with that then go for it!

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 22/03/2018 13:52

Alexandra Anne.

Alexandria is fine. Sheila as a middle name is fine.
Don't add any other names.
Sasha is a nice nn.

I have an Alexandra who wishes she was Alexandria Grin
She has two middle names.
I like Alexandria Shelia Anne. Flows well imho.

Alexandria Joy and Alexandria Faith are lovely. I do struggle with Alexandria Sheila, and can only see her growing up constantly hoping no one asks what her middle name is. Sorry.

I do think Alexandria Sheila is a bit of a mouthful and Alexandra Sheila is better. But I actually like Sheila / Shelagh, and I think it's one of those names from the 30s that will make a comeback.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 23/03/2018 06:38

I like Sheila/Shelagh too, and the three I know, are all really lovely.

Sheila is lrish for Juiia or Julie so could use that as a second name. But if someone is going to be happy in your family its fine. I gave my dd a very old fashioned family name as a second name and she loves it now in her 20s..says l should have called her that.
