Haitham

We are of Arabic origin and like the name Haitham ( pronounced Haytham) which means young eagle in Arabic. However does it sound ok in English?

It's nice, it's pronounced how it's spelt which is good. It's similar sounding to Nathan and Hiram which are fairly commonly used names. I like it.

I would read that as 'hate them'. I don't think it works well in English.

I saw the thread title and thought, “er, what?!” and I also read it in my head with a hard T like ”hay-tum”.

But actually, saying it the way it’s supposed to be pronounced, I rather like it. And if you are of Arabic origin it’s easy to explain. It would be weirder if you had no Arabic roots but had just picked the name because you heard it and liked it.

I like it. I haven’t come across it before, but pronounced it correctly on first attempt should should be no worries from the perspective (as parent to a child with a more unusual name, it is nice when people get how to say it!)

I read it the way you say it's pronounced (with a southern accent). Maybe it depends on where you live and what the accent is in your area as to whether it works in English.
