Is Aubrey a girls or boys name?

I really like the name Aubrey but my husband and family keep saying it's a mans name, I think it's a beautiful girls name. What do others think?

I know in recent years it's been used as a girls' name but to me it's an old fashioned boys' name. I think using it as a female name is a trend that started in the US & made its way over here.

Traditionally Aubrey is a boys name but has been used for girls also so is quite unisex at the moment. You could use Aubree to make it more obviously a female name. I think people will not know right away if your child is a boy or girl with this name, which might appeal to you or be annoying.

It's a unisex name.
I think traditionally it is a man's name ( my grandfathers name). But now it is possibly more common as a girl's name.

From the sound of it in another ten years it will probably be exclusively a girls' name, but it was a boys' name (never a common one). If you use it for your daughter, she may have quite a lot of tiresome misunderstandings from people who only know it as a boys' name. Maybe she won't care, but personally that would put me right off and I'd go for something which is either unambiguously a girls' name or better established as unisex (e.g. Alex).

Please don't spell it Aubree. Firstly, it makes it look like you can't spell. Secondly, the stress on Aubrey is traditionally on the first syllable. If you spell it Aubree it will be pronounced either with equal stress on both syllables or with the stress on the -bree bit. Both will sound clunky.

I know several. They are all male and over 40. I have heard it is now more popular as a name for a girl, although I haven't come across any.

My grandfather was called Aubrey and he would be in his 80’s now, the only other person ive known with it was in his 60’s too. That being said, I think it quite suits a girl. I think its a popular girls name in America
