Hector?

We already have an Arthur and are expecting DS 2. Only name we really both like is Hector. Are they too similar? Is Hector getting more popular?

Also loved Jasper but awful with our surname. Maybe Ernest?

DH likes Victor, Walter, Hugo.
I like Humphrey, Stanley.

Help!

Not a huge fan of Hector. I like Hugo and Stanley from your suggestions. Also I do quite like Ernest!

I love Hector but I know 1 horse, 1 cat and 1 dog with the name.. so it’s association for me is for pets.

All awesome names, you can't go wrong imo.

No, it's horrid and an animals name, not a little baby. Someone I knew called her kid Hector, and their dog had a similar 'is it an animal or a human' type name, and I kept getting the dog and the baby mixed up!

However, looking at your other name choices, I don't think we are 'aligned' when it comes to baby names! Grin

Out of all the names I like Hugo best.

I like Hector but personally I think I'd feel like a wally shouting it across a park though.

I really don't understand people coming on these threads to say 'its horrible', we all have different tastes in names- thankfully. If you've got something to say, be nice about it.

Old fashioned ones are the best. I also like Horace.

Hector is a great name!
I've been told it's a Dog/horse name, but it was a human name first! Hmm

Hector is a great name and is definitely a person's name, one of the brothers in the story of Troy was called it. Also, most animal names are also humans', which do you think came first?!! I am thinking of it if I am lucky to get pregnant again (with a boy of course!!) :-)

My ds1 was 2 when ds2 was born and he suggested we call the new baby Hector. We did consider it - like the classical / Scottish connection - but I didn't like the connection with the verb to hector and we chose another name.
Then we found out ds1's inspiration had been Hector the Horrid in Thomas the tank engine!

Don’t like it at all. Hugo is the best.

I think Hector is a great name. If you like it then go for it!

If it was more common you’d have the world and his wife on her egging you on.

Hugo is also fab.

Love Hector & Hugo! Both go lovely with Arthur, although I think Arthur & Hugo go slightly better that Arthur & Hector, but either works

Good point. Once someone else makes a name popular then it’s ok for conservative people to call their child. Just following the herd.
