Really finding it hard to pick a girls name! What does everyone think of Edie?

emmeline7725 Sat 17-Mar-18 21:02:09

Gorgeous. My niece is called Edie. I think it works on its own or with Edith as a full name.

ChocolateCrunch Sat 17-Mar-18 21:13:09

I like it and also Edith.

Catinthecorner Sat 17-Mar-18 21:17:58

I’d use Edith and shorten to Edie (maybe) but wouldn’t use Edie alone on the birth certificate

I love it. It is a lovely name. Congrats OP flowers

iklboo Sat 17-Mar-18 21:24:13

I like it (it's also my favourite song by The Cult).

mummyluf Sat 17-Mar-18 21:55:37

don't really like Edith, is it okay on its own? Thanks!

Tuttytoffee Sat 17-Mar-18 22:18:43

Love Edie! Was going to call my daughter this but my partner wouldn't agree. We went for Evelyn in the end but Edie is a lovely name.

Cute name smile

I have an Eden, she gets called Edie by all her friends. While I love Edie I hate it as a nickname... I'd just use Edie if its a name you love.

pipilangstrumpf Sun 18-Mar-18 07:49:42

Looks like a boys name, a nickname for Edward.

BrutusMcDogface Sun 18-Mar-18 08:33:39

Love Edie, Edith and Eden. Dd was nearly one herself! smile

Pipi- long vowel, one consonant. Short vowel, two consonants. Not sure if you're not English (German?) so just explaining to you that the nickname for Edward is Eddie- two ds)

Love Edie on its own and as a short form of Edith. Have also heard Edie as a nn for Meredith which worked well.

MikeUniformMike Sun 18-Mar-18 18:54:05

I'm not keen - it's ok short for Eden but she will just get called Ede.
Could it be short for Edwina?

pipilangstrumpf Mon 19-Mar-18 09:03:04

Thanks Brutus. But when I see Ed or Edie my brain still thinks Ed-ie, but thanks for the explanation.

BelfastSmile Mon 19-Mar-18 09:46:54

I like it, but slightly prefer the spelling "Eadi" - it looks more like how I think it should be spelt!

Edie is a fab name smile did you watch Desperate housewives? I mainly know it from that !

mischiefmanaged01 Mon 19-Mar-18 10:16:10

Edie is on our list 😍

Snoopysimaginaryfriend Mon 19-Mar-18 12:34:17

I have a Meredith and everyone calls her Edie

pipilangstrumpf Mon 19-Mar-18 12:38:22

Yes, Eadie is much more phonetic than Edie!

Crunchymum Mon 19-Mar-18 13:18:42

We have an 8 week old Edith.

She is Edie mainly but Edith on BC.

Lifeaback Mon 19-Mar-18 15:39:10

I have an edie (Edith on birth certificate) so I'm biased but I love it! We've had so many compliments on what a beautiful name it is, and I think it will travel with her perfectly as it's quite cutesy but also elegant and classy for when she's older

5LeafClover Mon 19-Mar-18 17:21:47

Loved it, but OH vetoed it. Still think it's pretty.

Greenyogagirl Mon 19-Mar-18 17:29:58

Love Edie smile

Crunchymum Mon 19-Mar-18 20:08:18

@Lifeaback

Out of interest, how do you introduce your little one? (We introduce as Edith even though we call her Edie)
