What does everyone think of the name Ellis for a boy?

He would have a Surname beginning with P that is 3 syllables. Any suggestions on a middle name?

I love it but I'm biased as my ds1 is Elis (we just dropped the second 1)

No man is an island? Ellis island?

I don’t really like it, also I think it sounds like a girl’s name: the Gaelic for Elizabeth, Elish, or Elise.

I think I prefer Elliot, though he might be called Billy for short with that one.

My friend has a new little boy called Ellis and I also think it sounds a bit girly tbh. That doesn't mean you shouldn't use it if you like it, obviously!

To be honest we're really struggling for boys names. Ellis is a possible because of the meaning behind the name (kind, benevolent), but we're not 100% convinced either.

OH also likes Jack, but we can't use that as already in the family.

I love Noah, but OH would rather steer clear of strong religious names.

Stuck :(

I love it for a boy or a girl. It's a great name!

I don't think Noah has particularly strong religious connotations. Yes, he is in the bible, but its a fairly common name now isn't it, like Isaac or something? It's not like Abraham or Ephraim!

I agree that Noah and Isaac are quite widely used now, and actually they are two of my favourite names, again for the meanings behind each.

But OH comes from a highly religious family who are a little controlling at times and feels as they baby would have to live up to their 'namesake'. Interestingly his other siblings (4 of them) have also steered away from religious names!

Over here in Gloucestershire I know 3 kids called Ellis - all girls about 10-11 years old.

Known a boy and a girl called Ellis, not my favourite name personally, but I don’t dislike it. Not sure how I would feel if there were a boy & girl in the same class with the same name, may be confusing, that’s the only thing I would consider. A relative in my family has a gender neutral name many people assume wrongly that she’s male.

Leo? For some reason I put it in the same category as Ellis. I prefer Leo though. Just not terribly keen on the sound of Ellis, or Elliott or Elias for that matter... must be the El part.

Love it, it’s my favourite boys name! You don’t see it often round these parts, and I’ve only ever met one.
