Is Elsie overused now?

Just that really - we're thinking of a longer name but the only shortening of it that we like is Elsie (I realise you can't always affect what shortening they end up with though). Is it very popular?

I don't think it's overused at all, it's lovely.

No, not at all. I don't know any Elsies.

names.darkgreener.com/#elsie

Should be helpful if popularity is a consideration.

I’ve met one under 5.
What’s the longer name?

In my opinion names like
Elsie Evie Isla ivy are really popular!
Where I live anyway!!

I hear Evie, Isla a lot but not Elsie.
Will it be short for Elizabeth,

The only Elsie I know is my great aunt who’s in her 70s! It’s a lovely name, wouldn’t say it’s over popular, but I guess that may vary from area to area

It's quite popular. It is a short form of Elizabeth. It could be short for Elspeth too, I suppose. It's nice.
I don't think you can go wrong with Elizabeth nn Elsa or Elsie.

Forgot to add - it will get shortened by kids to Else. Still like it.

There two in our toddler music class!

There were two!

Not where I am. I only know one Elsie and she's my age (early 30s).

I know one, aged 6. It’s cute!

There are 2 Elsie's in my dc nursery class. I think im the exception here. go for it. It's a lovely name and I doubt its that popular elsewhere.

I think it’s getting there. I don’t like it anyway, it feels wishy-washy. Like Maisie.

Pemba · 15/02/2018 03:56

Elise is much nicer.

All the Elsie’s I know of have died at a ripe old age. Don’t know any young ones but all the old ones I knew were awesome women.

Barre · 15/02/2018 07:24

I only know one or two but it feels like a very popular “type”, IYSWIM.

Report
pipilangstrumpf · 15/02/2018 07:55

I also much prefer Elise!

Report
ErrantBakedBean · 15/02/2018 08:25

It would be a nn for Eloisa, though I'm sure she'd get Ellie which certainly is popular. The darkgreener chart (thanks Gummy) does show a spike and that'll just be given names not shortenings... Good to hear it doesn't SEEM popular to write a few people yet.

Other nn suggestions welcome!
