Short boys names

Hi,

Im expecting DC4. Oldest has a very recognisable slightly biblical name, think Matthew or Thomas. Younger two have very unusual, slightly Irish/Catholic names, think like Imelda perhaps. Fewer than 20 children born in their year of birth share their name.

I'm looking for short boys names, preferably one syllable but could use a liner name with a shortened version. Current ideas are Jude and Finn. Front runners for girls are Maeve and Roisin (we're in the U.K. so won't use a fada!)

Thanks!

maybe just me, but I'd find using Jude (Old testament) a bit strange if the other DC have "Christian" names. I knew sisters Rebecca and Christine which I found strange. I'm even more surprised that as an atheist I even notice and am bothered :o

having said that I like both your boy options (and the girls ones but you aren't asking about those )

How about

The book of Jude is in the New Testament. Wasn't he Jesus's brother?

@pipilangstrumpf - I know, although pronounced differently. Not sure that's an issue?

Thanks for these. Theo has been on our list before the girls were born but feels a bit popular now. Plus the whole Feee-oh pronunciation would irritate me no end.

Some of these suggestions are a bit modern/cook/American which isn't really our style.

Thanks though Smile

@pipilangstrumpf and @AnythingNotEverything
I am German and I never associate Jude with Jew. As long as you don't have any close connections to Germany (there would probably be comments...) just ignore the jew comment. Jude is a nice traditional name.

@peanutty86 I speak German. Not as fluently as I once did, admittedly, and I wouldn't make that connection.

I would avoid Roisin. I've known a few and many people have trouble or simply cannot pronounce the name.

I thought Roisin was pn Rosheen which is seperate girls name.
