Be honest: would this get an eyeroll?

Thinking of middle name Guinevere for future DD. First name will be a short, simple, normal name.

Honestly, if you read that birth announcement, would you be hmm?

I was at school with a Guinevere. She was known as Gwen.

Awwlookatmybabyspider Sun 11-Feb-18 21:35:58

How is it pronounced.

splendide Sun 11-Feb-18 21:36:06

No not at all - I think middle names are a total free for all

Barre Sun 11-Feb-18 21:36:57

Pronounced “gwin-i-veer”

Trills Sun 11-Feb-18 21:38:04

It's a middle name, you can do what you like

ShimmeringIce Sun 11-Feb-18 21:38:06

Nope, it’s a real name, lovely!

Barre Sun 11-Feb-18 21:38:07

Love Gwen Schadenfreude — I fancied it as a first name but DH not keen sad

Jammycustard Sun 11-Feb-18 21:38:30

I like it as a first name. Also, I wouldn’t roll my eyes at middle names-it’s the chance to go wild.

Barre Sun 11-Feb-18 21:38:33

Yay, thank you!

I'd be really impressed.

Anna Guinevere
Lucy Guinevere
Amy Guinevere
Cara Guinevere

... all lovely. No eye rolling here!

Callamia Sun 11-Feb-18 21:38:53

Who cares? It’s a middle name - you could be naming her in honour of a much-loved relative/historical figure or guinea pig - it’s your business.

One of my children has a name that isn’t a name for his middle name, but it means something to us, and he never needs to use it, so i don’t feel too awful about it.

BikeRunSki Sun 11-Feb-18 21:39:38

I wouldn’t bat an eyelid

MMcanny Sun 11-Feb-18 21:39:53

No.

MMcanny Sun 11-Feb-18 21:40:11

It’s lovely.

FizzyGreenWater Sun 11-Feb-18 21:44:52

Middle names, anything goes

BroomstickOfLove Sun 11-Feb-18 21:45:41

It's fine.

NewYearNiki Sun 11-Feb-18 22:01:48

No not at all.

But if you're worried Genevieve is nice too.

Petalflowers Sun 11-Feb-18 22:33:18

Love it as first or middle name.

NotAnotherEmma Mon 12-Feb-18 21:13:48

It's a nice middle name.

LilaBlue Mon 12-Feb-18 21:21:38

My best friend is called Guinevere, it's a lovely name

MikeUniformMike Mon 12-Feb-18 21:23:28

I like it and much prefer it to Genevieve, which AFAIK isn't related.
The welsh for Guinivere is Gwenhwyfar, and there is one here on MN.
I think that Gaenor/Gaynor is a form of it too.

floriad Mon 12-Feb-18 21:32:59

Lovely.

I also like Gwenhwyfar. smile

Thistlebelle Mon 12-Feb-18 21:34:03

It’s fine as a first name too. Pretty awesome middle name.

MikeUniformMike Mon 12-Feb-18 21:37:31

I know a Gwenhwyfar and it's pretty. Would probably be mispronounced or misspelt though. She is usually called Gwen.
The Cornish form is much easier. Jennifer.
